Kevin Feige Says It May Be A Few Years Before SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING'S Ending Is Addressed

During an interview at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige says it may be a while before Spider-Man: Homecoming's shocking ending is fully addressed, while also explaining why the wall-crawler is kicking off "Phase 4".

If you've seen Spider-Man: Homecoming, you'll know that the ending of the film shook up Spidey's life in a big way with Peter's Aunt May discovering his identity as the superhero! The next time we'll see Spider-Man will be alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War, but it doesn't seem like that film (or its 2019 sequel) is going to spend too much time on the ramifications of May's shocking discovery.

When quizzed by IGN about how long it will be before we learn how May reacts to Peter's secret life, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige answered, "I think it might be a few years."

The sequel to Homecoming seems like the most likely place for it to be addressed, and it just so happens that the sequel will be kicking off "Phase 4" of the MCU, beginning minutes after the conclusion of the untitled Avengers film. When asked why they chose Spider-Man to kick off the next phase of events, Feige said it was a choice of bringing things back to a more grounded level. "After this 22 movie saga after untitled Avengers in May '19, it does seem like you want to get back to ground level, reassess, and who better to do that with than Peter Parker?"

Do you think Peter and May's new dynamic should be addressed sooner, or is Spidey's next film the right place? Let us know your thoughts down below!

Homecoming 2 doesn't come out for a few years so this makes sense I guess.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah, and hopefully they address just how exactly Peter's gonna be allowed to go into space and fight aliens on May's watch lol

Daredevil and Spidey v Kingpin for the sequel!

@Nightwing1015 - I really wish that they could somehow bring the Kingpin into this world. I always liked the dynamic between the two. But the division willl not allow it. I feel like we won't be seeing any crossovers while Ike is in charge of tv. And I t would take a colossally gigantic failure to remove him.

On a completely unrelated note, the Inhumans movie/show is looking pretty great.

@Nightwing1015 - sorry but that will NEVER happen. netflix and marvel studios are not set in the same universe but i don't blame kevin feige bc he always said he was only interested in movies

Makes sense. Spidey is going to be off saving the world with the big boys. I feel like Spidey 2 might flash back to May talking about it with peter, but in the movie itself she will let him know how she really feels. It may change after she sees/hears that he helped defeat Thanos. I'm excited to see where they take Peter/Spidey in Phase 4

Well I actually called that. Because that would be a consequence. And Marvel hates consequences.

Doesn't really matter. Homecoming is right now meaningless thanks to Infinity War given how
1) Spidey is an Avenger
2) Spidey got the Iron suit

When Homecomings entire story was Spidey wanting to be an Avenger & denying it.

I don't usual call out the MCU on their films but this is character regression regardless of Thanos invading or not

Want to share some thoughts:

Lol the hate in Jon Watts thread.

It’s great that Watts’s coming back. Hardly anyone can make this young coming-of-age Peter Parker/Spider-Man works better. Watts puts a nice touch of innocence in the movie like what he did with Cop Car. He makes high school believable. That tension-filled car scene is totally Jon Watts. Vulture is great because Jon Watts knows how to create real grounded scary villains. And I can see lots of his trademark visual style in the movie after 2 viewings.

Also, it is not really wise to compare this with the masterpiece called SM2. Before watching Homecoming, I expected it to be like SM2 or to beat SM2. I shouldn’t have. That never was this movie’s intention. Homecoming is the 2nd reboot in 10 years & the first entry in the MCU, it is understandable they want to focus less on drama and spectacle and opt for a fresh start, a more intimate light-hearted coming-of-age story. “Big things have small beginnings”. This Spidey is still growing and learning. Pretty sure drama & spectacle will come later.

I have minor issues with some dialogue, editing and CGI, though I believe most of the shortcomings come from too many writers and Watts still familiarizing himself with working on a blockbuster action movie. Overall, Homecoming is perfect, but it does a lot of things right, and it’s quiet amazing for Watt’s first attempt. Dude is a talented and unique director; fingers-crossed he will do even better and the sequel will be something to behold.

Also, I don't like some of the changes made to the lore and it will take time to bring myself to come to terms with them but hell Spider-Man is now in the MCU so I am happy.

If anything, it's gonna take Aunt May truly seeing what he means to the city, to people, for her to be at peace with him being a hero. Add in Ben's death as a factor that can only impede May accepting Peter's heroics and its gonna be a tough transition.

KIDCOM - 7/24/2017, 5:37 AM
@BlackBeltJones - yeah. We saw what she said to Pete at the Thai restaurant about not being a hero, how she freaks out over not getting a call back from him, and the scene of her rescuing a little girl being cut. The groundwork has been laid to show how difficult for her to see Pete risk his life in the sequels. Expect some emotional stuffs and Ben flashbacks hopefully.
