Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been unanimously praised by fans and critics alike and it's not hard to see. One of the most inventive superhero movies in quite some time, the animated feature is a legitimate love letter to the world of the wall-crawler and while it pays homage to the source material in a number of ways, it does a lot of new things as well.

Ahead of the release of the "Art of" book for Into the Spider-Verse, another batch of artwork has been released today and it puts the spotlight on alternate characters designs for Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker.

There are also some great shots of a number of other key characters and moments, including Aunt May, The Kingpin, and Doc Ock.

It's widely believed that Into the Spider-Verse is going to walk away with a number of big awards in the coming months, including "Best Animated Feature" at the Oscars. We'll keep you updated when it comes to that but to see this new concept art, simply click on the "View List" button below.

Can anyone explain to me why Peter is so much older than Spider-Gwen? Why wouldn’t, in any universe, they be the same age? I’ve never read the Spider-verse comics and didn’t keep up with the new stories so I’m not aware of the explanation

@ager - Gwen's from Earth 65. In that universe Parker is her best friend. He's the one that dies in her flashback.
In 616, where the older Peter B. Parker is from, Gwen was also the same age as him. Or at least she was until Amazing Spider-Man #121. They make no mention of her as being an ex-girlfriend of Parker's in this universe, because on the one hand it's unnecessary exposition and would confuse the GA and on the other hand would be really creepy to have an underage girl and a 40 year old man have that connection.

There was that scene in the movie where Parker is emotionally confusing the younger Mary Jane with the MJ from his universe and Gwen tells him that she knows what he's going through. She knows because she's going through the same thing with him, she's just keeping it to herself (because, y'know... creepy).

The main universe in the movie is Earth 1610 and although it is not the same as the old Earth 1610 from the comics, it does share some similarities and in the original 1610 Peter and Gwen were the same age and Miles was only a few years younger. In that universe Peter died whilst still a teenager, not when he was 26, like Chris Pine's Spider-man in the movie.
If the new 1610 does have a Gwen I would guess that she is also in her late 20s.

So yeah that's a really long way of saying that Pete and Gwen are the same age in their respective universes, but that the Gwen in this movie is from a different reality to all the Spider-men in the movie.

@GwenLantern - "She knows because she's going through the same thing with him, she's just keeping it to herself (because, y'know... creepy)"

I never even thought about that watching the movie.

@ager - the same reason Peter B Parker is older than the Peter from Miles’ universe, the universes aren’t in synch space/time is all warped by the generator Gwen got sent into last week so the rules of space time are just all over the place they could have gotten pulled from any point and showed up at any time

Such a great movie. Heros were spot on and loved liv, tombstone, and scorpion (worked well in this movie but not sure elsewhere would have worked) but I want to see alternatives for king pin and green goblin. Goblin was way off for me and Fisk was a bit off too imo.

Does a naked Peter Parker show up in this film?

Comic book purists only go crazy when it comes to Spider-Man.

Nolan gave zero shits about Batman comics, while Snyder wanted to (quite literally) rape Batman's character.

Where were the purists?

Henry Cavill snaps necks, yet people "enjoyed" MoS.

But multiple Spider-Men show up in a movie that celebrates everything lovely about the character, and these fanboys denounce it instantly while asking for the "real" Spider-Man.

Smh....

They definitely made the right design choice with Miles. There’s an innocence to him that was definitely necessary to play up his inexperience, doubts and enthusiasm.

I hope Gwen returns in the sequel with headband. Classic Gwen or Spider-Gwen, she still usually wears the trademark headband. A minor thing but still...
