Sony's critically-acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is off to a pretty stellar start at the global box office, having already grossed over $63 million worldwide, in just five days of release, on an estimated $90 million production budget (without P&A).

The film will debut in China this coming weekend and while Warner Bros.' Aquaman has dominated the Chinese box office for the past few weeks, Sony is really hoping Spider-Verse can find its own audience in the world's second-largest film market as success there could result in the film reaching blockbuster status a lot sooner than anticipated.

The animated superhero feature, which was co-directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, tells the origin story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and takes him on a dimension-shattering adventure as he partners with a number of Spider-people from different universes, including Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), and Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), to take down the villainous Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) and his sinister allies.
