Sony Pictures' Kraven The Hunter movie continues to round out its cast, and the latest addition is Christopher Abbott, who is reportedly set to play the main villain.
According to Deadline, the Catch-22 actor will play The Foreigner. Best known as a foe of Spider-Man, the mysterious mercenary is adept at multiple forms of martial arts and can also induce a 10-second hypnotic trance in someone by making eye contact with them. He's only had a few run-ins with Kraven in the comics, but is a known associate of his half-brother The Chameleon.
Kick-Ass and Avengers: Age of Ultron actor Aaron Taylor Johnson will play Kraven, while Russell Crowe recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role (most likely Kraven's father). Fred Hechinger is on board as The Chameleon, with Ariana DeBose as Calypso, and Alessandro Nivola as another unnamed villain.
It sounds like Mr. Kravinoff is going to have his hands full!
Abbot gained recognition after a supporting role in Girls, before earning acclaim for playing Yossarian in George Clooney's Catch 22 adaptation. He can be seen next in Searchlight’s Poor Things and Apple TV+ anthology series The Crowded Room.
J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier; A Most Violent Year) will direct Kraven from a screenplay from Art Marcum, Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer; Jack Reacher: Never Go Back). The movie is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on January 13, 2023.
