Filming is now underway on Sony Pictures' mysterious Madame Web in Boston, and the first photos from the set have been shared online. There's no sign of any cast members or notable locations/props just yet (though the presumed timeline is interesting), but we will likely see more revealing snaps as production continues.
The SPUMC ("Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters") movie has assembled a very impressive cast, and there's a rumor doing the rounds that the project was actually developed as a team-up film with Dakota Johnson's clairvoyant lead sharing the spotlight with a number of other female heroes. That remains to be seen, but if there is any truth to the report, co-star Sydney Sweeney wasn't about to give anything away.
Coming off dual Emmy nominations for her roles in Euphoria and White Lotus, Sweeney was asked about Madame Web during an interview with Variety. While she couldn't "really say anything about my character," the actress did express how excited she was about getting the opportunity to appear in a superhero movie.
"Oh my goodness. I grew up watching Marvel movies and superheroes are just the coolest thing ever. So I just dreamt of being able to be a part of something bigger than life itself. And that’s what I feel like I’m getting to be a part of with Madame Web."
You can take a look at the set snaps at the link below.
The movie also stars Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced and Celeste O'Connor. S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Madame Web was recently given an official release date, and is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2023.
