Marc Webb Reacts To SPIDER-MAN Reboot; Reveals Which Villains He Wanted To Tackle Next

Marc Webb talks here for the first time since The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was scrapped in preference of a Marvel Studios led reboot, commenting on the creative direction they're now taking the character in, and which villains he was hoping to utilise in the third instalment...

When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released, it was believed that Marc Webb would return to helm The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Leaked Sony emails seemed to indicate that Sony weren't happy with his demands for more money, so whether or not that would have happened isn't clear, but it's a moot point now that Marvel Studios are rebooting the franchise with a new director and actor.

In the video below, Webb shares his thoughts on not returning to the franchise and expresses his excitement about what Marvel has planned. He remains good natured throughout, though the interviewer doesn't really push him on how he really felt about being dropped from the franchise. Asked what he had planned for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, Webb talks about further developing The Man in the Hat and Sinister Six, and even name drops Venom! Check it out in full below.

Poor guy. He looked defeated during some BTS stuff during TASM2.

He'll rebound by going back to his indie roots. Already has a film lined up with Miles Teller. He clearly knows his shit; him, Alfonso Cuaron and Edgar Wright talking about creativity during 2013 SDCC was one of my highlights.

Cool, can't wait to see Spidey in the MCU, John Watts feels like a really good choice

He's a good director. He'll be fine. I wanted to see him finish his story, though.

Not gonna lie I was looking forward to seeing where they'd go with the story. Oh well...too bad. Marvel having Spidey should more than make up for that!

He was out of his element on those films and was the wrong choice to direct something like Spider-Man.

When will Hollywood learn that tasking a one-time indie director with a summer blockbuster rarely ever works.

I like Marc Webb and I hope he gets more work in the future, he just seems like a really down to earth and cool person.

TASM 2 was a damn shame, but oh well. We're moving on

Shit director that made shit Spidey movies.

I can't take anything Spider-Man related seriously when Webb had Uncle Ben die because Peter was 2 cents short on his milk and Peter never learned about responsibility.

@LEVITIKUZ Not only did he have Uncle Ben die in the most ridiculous way possible, but he also made Peter feel so guilty about Captain Stacy's death that he saw ghosts of Denis Leary in the sequel, not of his beloved Uncle Ben who should've had 10 times the influence and impact on him.

The irony of using an Andrew Garfield gift (from a lesser performance) to mock a TASM fan...

@DrDoom Don't blame Webb buddy, he was just caught up in the studio cycle. It was quite clear Webb did not have a voice on the Amazing Spider-Man movies. He was basically just a "yes" man.

I mean, yeah it had lots of problems, but it had bright spots as well. I give it a 6/10.

His Spider-Man was perfect (in terms of movements, etc.), but he worked with two awful scripts which meant that everything else was terrible, especially in the sequel. Would love to see him go back to a (500) Days of Summer kind of movie.

@MercwithMouth I actually chose that gif specifically because it was an Andrew Garfield role...I'm not sure I know what that says about me, to be honest haha.

Venom is amazing spiderman 3 that's weird that he'd use the same character in the 3rd movie again but I'm kinda sad to see Andrew go I always liked him but that goblin!!! Terrible design, and I remember when everyone thought it'd be the greatest CBM of all time, I even did too :/

I am curious about the Uncle Ben death. The way I see it, Uncle Ben died in both series' because someone got robbed that pissed off Peter. The situation makes no difference when the reasoning is identical.
