Deadline is reporting that Adria Arjona is in talks to join Sony's upcoming Morbius movie, which has Academy Award-winner Jared Leto (Blade Runner 2049) starring in the title role.

She'll portray the film's female lead, Martine Bancroft, who, in the comics, is engaged to the renowned Dr. Michael Morbius (Leto) before he accidentally turns himself into a living vampire while seeking a cure for his rare blood disease. She then quickly turns from fiancé to potential victim as Morbius learns to cope with his insatiable bloodlust.

Daniel Espinosa (Life; Safe House) is directing the standalone feature with a script from Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who recently co-created Netflix's Lost in Space series. Their past credits also include Power Rangers, Gods of Egypt, The Last Witch Hunter, and Dracula Untold.

Production is slated to begin in early February, so expect to hear a lot more casting news as we enter the new year.

Morbius will be Sony's second live-action entry in their burgeoning Spidey-less Spider-Man universe, following the Tom Hardy-led blockbuster Venom, which raked in over $852.7 million worldwide.

The up-and-coming Arjona is best known for her roles in True Detective, Narcos, The Belko Experiment, Emerald City, Pacific Rim Uprising, and Life of the Party. She can be seen next in a pair of Netflix thrillers, the Ben Affleck/Oscar Isaac heist film Triple Frontier and the Ryan Reynolds-fronted actioner Six Underground
