Morbius Star Adria Arjona On Working With "A**hole" Method Actor (And Fans Are Convinced It's Jared Leto)

Before joining the DCU in next summer's Man of Tomorrow, Adria Arjona has slammed a former co-star who went method and fans are convinced she's talking about Morbius' lead actor, Jared Leto.

Method acting continues to divide opinions. While it's led to some Oscar-winning performances, hearing how those actors sometimes behave on set has resulted in debates about whether it's really worth it when their work so negatively impacts others' experiences.

In an interview revisiting her work on projects like Andor and Hit Man, Onslaught star Adria Arjona reflected on a negative experience she had with a co-star who decided to go method.

Arjona declined to name them, but social media sleuths have done their thing and determined that she was likely referring to Morbius co-star Jared Leto. As a reminder, the controversial actor delayed production on the Marvel movie by taking up to 45 minutes to use the restroom because he insisted on hobbling there slowly on crutches to stay in character.

"I've had it with an actor that I was like, 'Good God,'" Arjona recalled. "But it was more just like an ego trip. I'm like, 'How are you getting away with this?' I’m confused by it, too. I’m like, 'Wow, if I start doing that, I will never work again.'"

"I was in shock by the behaviour, but also in awe. I was like, 'You are f*cking fascinating. What makes you think that this is OK?' I really needed to get into [their] brain about it," she continued. "I would watch interviews of this actor—not saying female or male, just actor in general—and I would be like, 'Oh my God, they're so nice. They're so nice. What a good actor.' It just fascinates me to see people, how they behave."

Like many of its critics, Arjona feels that it's used as an excuse to behave like an "asshole," something Leto has now been accused of on multiple projects (including 2016's Suicide Squad, where he harassed his co-stars with various bizarre gifts while playing The Joker).

"Can we cancel method acting? Because there are a lot of assholes in there," Arjona said. "And then they just say, 'I'm a method actor,' and shit. I don't buy it. You don't get to behave like this."

She continued, "You will never see a woman say she’s a method actor. Just men who are assholes, because we wouldn't get away with it. We would never work again."

After a disappointing stint in Sony's Marvel Universe, Arjona will be hoping for better luck in James Gunn's DCU. Rumour has it she's playing Wonder Woman in next summer's Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, though Maxima remains a very real possibility.

@TemporarilyHere - I took it as a rip on Zak Snyder.
But that's just me.

@BiffDitko -

I wish it were, but @TheAmericanHero recently outed themselves as an avid supporter of that manipulative, pretentious, elitist, cult-leading, tragedy-weaponizing, self-aggrandazing, utter cunt of an alleged "cReAtOr", so I honestly doubt he would ever have the courage to ever insult his precious leader in such a manner.

Plus, I think it's pretty clearly implied that Arjona was referring to Leto, not Snyder, given how she worked with him on Morbius.

A good point was being made until weakening it by turning it into a gender argument.

@IAmAHoot - her point was "how are they getting away with this". Pulling from her own experience as a woman, she's concluding that this behavior wouldnt be tolerated if it came from a woman. Shes not wrong and it shouldn't be wrong to mention it even if it ruffles the feathers of sensitive men

@Vigor - why is she not wrong? Are there really no women method actors? or is she sexist for not knowing of the female method actors? Is it ok if a female method actor acts like a dick? Probably yes because it’s not off from what they really act like 🤣

@Vigor - I understood what she said just fine. You haven't changed my comment. Established actresses could and have gotten away with such behavior over the decades since classic Hollywood; it wouldn't be tolerated by any relative newcomer. Good lord, pretend "divas" don't exist while you're at it.

@IAmAHoot - All it takes for woman's Hollywood career to be over is to be "hard to work with" once, while the likes Leto can delay the shooting by making bathroom breaks difficult and send used condoms to their co-workers, without getting so much as a slap on their wrist.

@Vigor - i think it is incorrect though. It’s about power, not gender. Historically, a lot of the more powerful actors have been men, but it depends on your status in Hollywood and how money money is riding on you. If you’re Meryl Streep, or Anne Hathaway, or Scarlett Johansson and the entire production depends on your stardom, there’s no way your going to get fired over bad behavior, just like a man.

There’s a long history of diva behavior in Hollywood: Katherine Heigl got away with it for years before it caught up to her, and even then because she publicly challenged even more powerful men. Charmed was filled with diva behavior behind the scenes.

I never feel my "male-ness" is in jeopardy lol, so I don't have the reactions some do to women "coming for their masculinity". There are no Amazons walking through that proverbial door.

Read up on some of Marlon Brando's "method acting".
Particularly when it comes to "The Island Of Dr. Moreau" or even Donner's "Superman". Then of course there is "Last Tango In Paris" which went from "method acting" to full on sexual assault.
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 9/6/2026, 8:28 AM
@BiffDitko - Donner's Superman...the film Brando refused to learn his lines for and the crew created cue-cards to hide on set behind the camera so he could read his lines while filming.
True "asshole."
BiffDitko
BiffDitko - 9/6/2026, 9:23 AM
@lazlodaytona - BUT!!! He pulled that stunt on "THE GODFATHER" FIRST!!!!!!
Then he did that pretty much for the rest of his career. He "improvised" the majority of his lines for "Apocalypse Now" the rest he had fed to him through an ear piece, same like in "Moreau"
He also tried to convince James Caan to play Superman (oh GOD) just so they could hang out.
He got paid 3 million in 1978 for all of 11 minutes of screen time plus backend profit that nabbed him almost 19 million, in 70s $.
He tried to convince Donmer to make Jor-El an inanimate object so he wouldn't even actually have to show up. I believe he wanted Jor-El to be a glowing green bagel. I AM NOT making this up.
There is an UHMAZING documentary about the making of "The Island Of Dr. Moreau" and how Brando practically drove the director insane.

@BiffDitko - He really added nothing inherently to the movie in terms of performance, just name value. In keeping with the comics, in my opinion he and Lara should have been younger.
BiffDitko
BiffDitko - 9/6/2026, 11:29 AM
@RolandD - Well, technically speaking "Superman" was THE FIRST big budget Hollywood Comoc Book Film.
I'm not counting the serials or "Batman 66" or "Superman Vs The Mole Men" as they were just basically tv pilots sent to the theater.
"Superman" and the story if it getting to the screen is fascinating to me.
WB had acquired the rights and wanted to make a big Hollywood spectacle. The supporting actors were all Hollywood Golden Age Legends. Reeve and Kidder were relative unknowns. Reeve got $200,000 Kidder got half that. Brando received 3 MILLION plus BO back end profit. He cleared 19 million at the end.
They needed BIG NAMES to sell the movie. Check out some of the actors they wanted. All big names from the 70s. The only real name they went after that I think would have been actually GOOD was Robert Redford. They went at him HARD to play Superman. Real hard. He would have been fantastic but he wasn't signing up for what was going to be 2 movies filmed back to back.
Of course things worked out, just not for Donner who clashed with the Salkinds and got dumped halfway through for Lester who directed 2.
Again, it's a FASCINATING look into behind the scenes stuff. Like ARNOLD F***ING SCHWARZENEGGER tested!!! The Salinds heard about the Heavyweight Champion, MUHAMMAD ALI, and said "Hey, let's audiotn THIS GUY!" They didn't know he was Black. He got the invite to audition, LOVED THE IDEA and then just as quick it was canceled.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the podcast BEST MOVIES NEVER MADE. They cover allllll this and more.
RolandD
RolandD - 9/6/2026, 11:45 AM
@BiffDitko - Sure. I remember those days very well. They absolutely hired the right guy to be Superman, Redford or not. Hackman could have been the best Luthor ever if they had not written him so camp. It was a moment an I have no idea because there is no way to tell but I am not sure they needed Brando to get people to come to the theater to see it. Maybe they needed him to get proper funding to make the movie, though. Reeve was totally unimpressed with him as an actor on set, though although.
TheRevelation
TheRevelation - 9/6/2026, 7:05 PM
@BiffDitko - True. I mean, going all the way back to Nemesis...even Patrick was just like hmmm when it came Hardy's "method". You're right though, imo anyway. Once they can justify it financially they commit to it, for better or worse...some of them anyway.

Method acting is an excuse for being an asshole. Good professionals wouldn't need this shit.
BiffDitko
BiffDitko - 9/6/2026, 7:54 AM
@Fogs - Not "always" it can be a legitimate process, and it is. Some actors, like Marlon Brando or Leto DO use it as an excuse fo horrible behavior. Now Brando is a little different. He only took it to the extreme sometime in the 70s but unfortunately he was that way for the rest of his life afterwards. Leto let it go to his head in am extreme way. Actors are...special types of people. Some can turn it on and off like they're supposed to. Sometimes that ON switch gets busted in the ON position and stays that way.
RolandD
RolandD - 9/6/2026, 11:21 AM
@Fogs @BiffDitko - OK, I’m not an acting coach, Director or actor but staying in character as I have always understood it does not require acting like a jerk. For instance, and I don’t know that he ever did this but Charlie Cox could stay in character by continuing to act like he’s blind even when the cameras aren’t rolling. Another actor might use the accent that they use as the character even when the cameras aren’t rolling. My guess is that a lot of times that a character who acts like a jerk when the cameras aren’t rolling because his character is a jerk in the show or movie, has a good chance of being a jerk in real life.

BiffDitko - 9/6/2026, 11:33 AM
@RolandD - Oh I totally get you. Amd tbh actors are fine, lol, most of them. I've been fortunate and unfortunate to deal with both. Ive learned from the best and worst.
I'm good at playing pretend but I prefer to do it on paper.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 9/6/2026, 12:04 PM
@Fogs - BiffDitko - Yeah, method acting has become a bastardized term that doesn't really mean the same thing as actual method acting. And honestly, this actress, although I'm on her side in this, is speaking about method acting pretty ignorantly. What she means to say is assholes that use "method acting as a reason to be an asshole."

Not all method actors behave like this. Daniel Day Lewis is a great example. But method acting is really just the foundation for modern acting developed by Stanlislavski; later introduced to America by Lee Strasberg and further developing it and coining it "The Method". It's just the process of "becoming" a character instead of the old performative style. Sanford Meisner described it famously as, "living truthfully in imaginary circumstances." And that's all method acting is -- making the audience BELIEVE what they're watching is real instead of a theatrical performance.

The problem is, some people take the process of method acting as an excuse to be obnoxiously weird and self entitled. On the other side of the coin, we wouldn't have absolutely brilliant characters like Heath Ledger's Joker or Day-Lewis's Bill the Butcher, etc.

But also... the irony is Leto fvcking sucks. Lol. It's either that, or he's just been horribly casted in the last 10 years. His characters have been terrible.

This has nothing to do with her argument (which i think is false, there is definitive a benefit of staying in character), but she wasn't very convincing in Onslaught, which may be because the script didn't give her good scenes.
