With a release date of the July 3rd 2012, and production expected to begin later this year, Director Marc Webb has yet to announce an actor for Peter Parker for the new Spider-Man reboot. But Mr. Marc Webb has been quietly reading actors for the title role, and now THR reports that Webb's destined search has been narrowed down to five young men.

Jamie Bell(24), Alden Ehrenreich (20), Frank Dillane (19), Andrew Garfield (27), and mentioned yet again, Josh Hutcherson(Soon to be 18) are said to be the final contestants. THR includes No screen tests have been conducted at this early stage, and insiders point out that the director and studio are still on the lookout.

A Columbia spokesperson did not comment on the casting process, saying “There have been a number of names floated online and almost every week, someone calls with a new rumor. We are not commenting on the casting process or rumors such as these.” Alvin Sargent is currently rewriting the script for the 2012 reboot.

DCMF: Casting relative unknowns in a story that roots Parker back in high school, outlining the tale of a teen dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though he had the power to stop it. With Sam Raimi's previous franchise, it obviously dealt with this and moved on. So I'm curios at how general audiences will retake this story, downgrading from the talented Toby Maguire to an relatively unknown. What do you think?

To be fair some of these are interesting choices. Most of them are good actors and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can pull off.

NONE! All 5 are terrible.

hmm I thought Sony would cast somebody younger so they can have him for more sequels and actually have him look like he's in high school.

Garfield is 27? [frick] just go with JGL he's only 2 years older. I mean he looked like he was in High School in 500 days.

Josh Hutcherson would be great but i am with LEE777 on Jean Luc-Bilodeau as the New Spidey

I hope Josh Hutcherson since I have seen his acting, and he is good. Plus he looks the most like Peter Parker, and he is the youngest of the group.

if i had to choose right now, i'd go with little Voldemort
after looking at pictures of Frank Dillane, he looks the most like Peter Parker

What happened to that Logan Lerman kid? He was okay casting.

Just go with JGL and call it good. I've seen Bell and Hutcherson act and they are decent but just all wrong for this part. Not to mention, Hutcherson looks like he's about 4 inches tall.

I've only seen Bell and Hutcherson act, but if I was forced to choose out of all these, definitely Bell. He is an excellent young actor, and I think he could be able to do something very special with the role. The only strikes against him are that he is a little old and he doesn't have the greatest Peter Parker look for him. But I don't really think any of the other guys up there have much of a better look than him, maybe Hutcherson, but I'd still way rather have Bell, and maybe even Garfield (based on other pictures than the one up top), but I haven't seen him act.

Honestly, Toby has the personality of a Domino's Pizza box. And that is kind of a rip on the box. That being said, I agree this reboot seems pointless.

and Jamie Bell has that big ass nose that would pop through the mask
Little Voldemort looks the part the most

OK, I've also seen Garfield act and he's pretty good too. He was in "Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." Just don't think he's got the right look.

Hey superbatspiderman Tobey McGuire was a horrible Spiderman from the start....the first two films weren't too bad, but he was awful. Didn't look the part and is a huge turd. I say Joel McChale would be a good choice for a chatty banter Spider-Man. Apparently he auditioned for the first one....and they actually gave him a role as a banker in the 2nd one I think. Tall slender build, looks the part, experienced, funny. Ah, whatever

The horror! :(

Jamie Bell beats the others by a long mile though. However, until they make a Spider-Man movie with a "grown-up" Peter Parker, I'm really not interested in taking the character back to high school with a low budget, a director with no action experience and heavy influences from Ultimate Spider-Man. [frick] that.

Who knows, remember what happened with Cap? All those finalists and screen tests, and then Evans nabs it out of nowhere. Same thing could possibly happen here.

Alden Ehrenreich has gotten shout outs from both Speilberg and Francis Ford Capolla. He might be a good choice if photographed properly.

Josh Hutcherson all the way!

It will need to feel decidedly different in order to succeed. That may be a tall task as the first couple really captured the essence of the character.
