Sam Raimi Talks Spiderman 4 & 5

Sam Raimi sat down with MTV to discuss the current progress of "Spider-man 4," currently set for a May 6, 2011 release.

Who are the villains? Will Dunst return? Will we have a big Emo dance chorus line?

Sam Raimi does not answer any of these questions! But heres what he does say:

“The writers, producers and I are working out what the story will be, but we haven’t been talking in terms of Part 4 and 5.” Raimi told MTV News. “I’ve read that [about 'Spider-Man 5’] also, but right now we’re just working on the story for ‘Spider-Man 4,’ just that one film.

“We’re definitely talking about working from all the material in the comic books and nothing [invented] outside of that, “Raimi continued. “All the characters or villain or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee’s creations or those that came after him.”

Sounds promising. There have been rumors of Kirsten Dunst not reprising her role as Mary Jane Watson but Raimi seems adamant that he wants her back:

"I can’t imagine making a ‘Spider-Man’ movie without Kirsten,” he said, seemingly contemplating the idea in his head with a long pause. “Of course it can be done because Spider Man has existed without the character of Mary-Jane but she’s one of my favorite parts and it would be a shame not to have her in the picture. I’m hoping she’ll be in it and I’m planning on having a story with her in it.”

Personally i liked Dunst as MJ although i know alot of fans didnt. What do you think? Should she return? Also , Morbius has been rumored to be the/one of the villains for the movie but since Raimi has said no more on this i think he may have been just trying to get the fans talking. Who knows. But which villains do you guys think should feature?

dunst... didn't like her after the 1st one. got... naggy?
Morbius... idk... not really feeling it. Rather have Lizard. maybe shocker too. idk just Morbius would seem like they were tryin to make a Twilight. ya know? i know he was here 1st but the whole vampire craze is here now.

dunst was ok. it was more her attitude about comicbook movies in general. like she is above them and its really all for the paycheck. arent they really all for the paycheck? unless its her vanity piece like marie antoinette?

As far as villians, they were already building up lizard so that would be an ok villian. his story isnt well known so they could take a few acceptable liberties.

In my mind, i loved the mcfarland/kraven the hunter series. spidey gets really broken down mentally, physically, and emotionally. AND buried alive! he gets to really find out what he's made of.

LIZARD/KRAVEN STORY!!!!!

That's what I'm rooting for anyway.

As long as they don't go overboard on the amount of characters... Then there is no real time for a good story. Talontd is right. The Lizard is right there.

How about just ONE villain?

I think Morbius would be cool, but doesn't really vibe with the Spiderman movies. I would love to see them re-vamp (pun intended) Blade with him in it though!

I liked MJ in all but the last movie. And she wasn't bad necessarily, just annoying. And that isn't Kirsten's fault, it's the writers. No one was complaining about her in the first one while she was dripping wet (and cold ;)).

I will say Lizard OR Kraven.

I want to see Sir Ben Kingsley as the Vulture, and at the end of the movie Dr Connors becomes the Lizard, setting up a part 5. I know the Vulture isn't the coolest villain, but I am sure if they could get Sir Kingsley he would be a very demented villain.

yeah how about just one villain? How about just a villain that isn't gay.

And I'd really like for them to NOT focus on a love story. Something different this time, yeah? If they're gonna add some love story in there, at least put in other aspects man!

Thinking about it now, The Lizard isn't half bad =D

Here's what i say:
They should have both Kraven and The Lizard as villains.

If you watch The Spectacular Spider-Man series, then you'll notice that the episodes with The Lizard and especially Kraven have this jungle vibe to them, what with Kraven chasing Spidey and Spidey tracking The Lizard, and the city being their jungle.

It'd be cool to see that in the movie.

I want Norman Osborn to return - now they've already handled his origin story they can actually show him to be the super villain he truly is. Really he is one of the three biggest Marvel villains along with Doom and Magneto.

Well, i feel that Kraven/Lizard would be the best. With Shocker in the opening getting his ass whooped by Spidey! There would be this huge hunt going on between Kraven, lizard and Spidey with no one knowing who the true villain is. Lizard being Connors, Kraven being a "hunter" and not that much of a villain and Spidey still fighting to get into the people's good graces. To me, no matter who you get to play Vulture, he would never be good enough for a solo villain.

Wow TheDevilsRightHandMan, had no idea you were gonna post that!

It won't be 100% comic book story, so... They could do Kraven and the Lizard. Kraven and Lizard take on Spidey. Then Kraven and Spidey team up to stop the Lizard. Or Kraven hunts the Lizard and feels Spidey is in the way. No matter what I just hope it's better than Spiderman 3.

Lizard would be pretty awesome... But I agree Juicerrules. We need to have a set up in the 4th movie. Like have Doc Conners working on some secret serum. Have Peter Helping him. and then have the vulture, since he is also rich like Norman, funding the project. Kinda like in the animated series in the 90s.
DarkAvengers

Well, since they ruined Venom, I'd say the kingpin and incorporate Daredevil into the mix. Why not? Have the Hobgoblin steal something from Fisk or something that brings Spidey and Daredevil together.

Definetly Kraven/Lizard story would be awesome, but i realy hope for a reboot they ruined the movie series with the 3rd one. I'm hopeing for a reboot "Spectacular Spider-Man" style

idk what i want in a spidey movie anymore. spidey 3 was just . . . well there is no words to describe it but i just want these movies to be over with so it will be out of Raimi's and sony's hands!!! i think spidey is too much for them to handle. never bite more than you can chew.

i hate reboots but c'mon, MARVEL TAKE BACK WHATS RIGHTFULLY YOURS AND START A NEW. and i mean a new EVERYTHING...

and crush be careful what you wish for... i said "as long as venom is in it im cool" before Spidey 3 and that didnt turn out well. i think you mean "as long as lizard is done RIGHT, im cool" haha

Def. Lizard and Kraven.

Dunst was ok in the first one, as the high school mary jane. I don't see her as the super model/actress wife that she was in the comic. I usually found myself cheering for the villain to off her in the 2nd and 3rd movies.

Hopefully the 4th won't suck horribly like the 3rd movie. I liked the villains in the 3rd movie but the script sucked. The dancing, emo peter parker was unspeakable. I was waiting on Joel Schumacher to pop out, and slap some nipples & neon on the venom costume. Raimi just threw a fit b/c the studio wanted him to do venom and he hates the character. And what the hell was Harry? he could've been Hobgoblin (ultimates style) or goblin II. It still makes me sad

And why doesn't spiderman ever really crack jokes in the movies?

I'd like to see Silver Sable join Spidey in the hunt for the Lizard. That. Would. Rule.

Lizard and Kraven i think would be cool, or try to whip up a combo of mysterio and electro, or even just one of them.
Yeah the third one wasnt the best, they kinda ruined a great opprotunity to do something wicked with harry, and they made sandman a whiny little bitch, although he wasnt that bad. But as for vemon, it could've waited, but everybody started whining cuz they absolutely wanted him to be in the third one, so raimi did as best he could to throw him in there and satisfy people, and it still wasnt good enough. and i think MJ should be gone, so we can avoid a fourth straight scenario of her just simply getting kid-napped. a little more creativity would be better. kinda like how the joker had the whole city shitting their pants in TDK. but definitely set up for a carnage encounter in the future, and try to revive venom. just my opinion
WeaponX

I'd like to see Rhino in the movies but they should do Lizard. They should've done Lizard in the third movie, otherwise it's just wasted build-up if they continue to ignore it. No symbiotes.

As for Spider-Man, those dudes need to bring back his smack talk. Badly.

They should also scrap the "save MJ" angle that was just abused with the last two films. Like Spider-Man needs MJ to be the final damsel in distress before he gives it his all, when I'm sure the fate of ordinary citizens is enough for him to go all out. Also, if Mary Jane is going to be a part of it, she needs a serious character over-haul. Dump the jazz cafe/Broadway singing crap, the crying selfish git stuff and keep her out of the final act. Make her a damn soap opera actress, have her portrayed with a little more bravado and bring back the red wig, that dye job was horrible.

I would like to see Kraven, Lizard and possibly Carnage before the series is done. I do agree Kraven and Lizard would be an awesome idea together.
TheMyth

Jeez, nobody wants to see Hammerhead or Vulture or any other second rate loser for a Spidey villain. Vulture wouldn't be cool even with 10 others helping him do so. Shaman and TheDevil nailed it. A who hunts who, hunts who story in the concrete jungle of New York. I really like Betty's idea of using the McFarlane Kraven story for a basis as well. Classic stuff when Spidey gets buried alive.

AND FOR [frick] SAKE STOP WISHING FOR CARNAGE!!!! DOES ANYONE REALLY WANT TO SEE THAT CHARACTER BUTCHERED LIKE VENOM!!! AND WHAT IS YOUR LOGICAL BASIS FOR ADDING CARNAGE, OR SHOULD THEY JUST FORCE HIM IN TO SATISFY HALF OF YOU, LIKE THEY DID VENOM!!!

Ahem. Sorry 'bout that.

I would love to see the Kingpin as the main antagonist vs. Justin Hammer(Silvermane) with the Scorpion, Rhino and Tombstone as the muscle with Spiderman in the middle trying to stop it all. I mean doesnt anyone want to see the classic villains. And since they're two movies based one story arc it should be able to handle multiple villains. Spiderman has a much more impressive rouges gallery than just Venom and Carnage and they would do well to utilize it.

Raimi, after that 'Disco Stu' Peter Parker fiasco, you can just SUCK IT! Take Dunst AND McGuire (whiney little maggot) with you! You should be hung upside-down by your toenails and lowered (ever so slowly) into a vat of boiling excrement! Excelsior this - REBOOT!!!!!!!

I agree with Shaman. Have shocker in there as a cameo. I think that Rami should focus on the major villains and just put the smaller villains as just small parts. Put a bunch of cameos(throughout the series of course) for the fanboys. So we can see the stronger 'baddies' as a part of the story.

Lizard would be good as a back story villain but the main villain? Bring back Norman Osborn!!! He's cammioed in 2 and 3 so put him in a better costume and it would be awesome...Norman Osborn back to destroy Peter's life in revenge for Harry dying. Electro would be cool (in the original costume)

I think they should bring in Vulture or Rhino or a small kinda cameo villian or one of these like he starts the movie busting a bank robberery with one of these guys or SHOCKER lol but those villians couldnt hold a movie on their own

See Ya, The ShakeBake
