Marvel's Spider-Man returns for its third season, the aptly retitled Spider-Man: Maximum Venom, on Sunday, April 19th on Disney XD, and if you couldn't already tell by the title, the new season will feature Peter Parker (Robbie Daymond) dealing with a full-blown Venom invasion.

In Maximum Venom, the monstrous Venom symbiote will hit overdrive on his plan to destroy Spider-Man by bringing devastating reinforcements from its home planet to Earth and subsequently infecting a number of Marvel's most popular superheroes, including Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Groot and more.

Unlike the previous seasons, Maximum Venom will be a self-contained story, albeit with a massive scale, spanning over six hour-long specials. It's essentially a six-part animated miniseries starring your friendly neighborhood webslinger.

The season will feature the returning voice talents of Robbie Daymond as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Ben Pronsky as Venom, Fred Tatasciore as Max Modell, Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales, Melanie Minichino as Anya Corazon/Spider-Girl, Laura Bailey as Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider, Scott Menville as Grady Scraps, Max Mittelman as Harry Osborn/Hobgoblin, Yuri Lowenthal as Curt Connors and Nancy Linari as Aunt May.

New additions include Felicia Day (Supernatural) as Mary Jane Watson, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) as Head Administrator, Sofia Wylie (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) as Ironheart/Riri Williams, and ZOMBIES 2 stars Meg Donnelly, Kylee Russell and Carla Jeffery as Symbiote Sisters Scream, Scorn and Mania, respectively.

Peter Parker has been Spider-Man for two (not exactly smooth) years. He’s faced many super heroic and personal challenges while managing to keep New York safe. Now going into his third year at the prestigious Horizon High, Peter is confident he can handle anything that comes his way but even he can’t imagine what’s next. Venom changes all that when he brings about a battle with global stakes.

Months ago I checked some videos that Youtube was recommending and while nothing will ever come close to Spectacular Spidey, I got to say the Green Goblin War arc they were promoting didn't look so bad.

Seems like the show began to slowly improve until it found it's footing and groove.

@NinnesMBC - I'm watching the show and it's still pretty meh, there was only one arc that really managed to capture the spirit of the comics so far but the quality dropped again immediately after that.

i would much prefer sony give back the live action rights and marvel give them the videogames and animated movies and series rights. bc marvel animated is trash

@Superheromoviefan - Earth's Mightiest Heroes were great in their time. To replace it with Supehero Squad was idiotic at best. I get going at the lil fans for future payoffs, but don't destroy an already established show/target audience to do so. My two cents.

@tripttwe - toddlers will watch anything so they arent much of "established show/target audience". also i think kids deserve better. those are my two cents

@Superheromoviefan - You know what the f#@K I meant! Bedsides, I've seen little'ns turn from sports to cartoons, so they do have a preference. I appreciate the semi-agreement after the fact. Go against me again, and I will be forced to summon Lord Buckethead. My four cents.

This show isn't half bad. Much better than Ultimate Spider-Man, even thought that show had it's moments. Even Panther's Quest was watchable. But where are the X-Men? The last character to have an appearance in any of these shows was Wolverine, and that's been years. It's a shame that characters have to have MCU counterparts before having an animated appearance or show, but that's where we are.

I like this show, screw the haters, lol. Seriously tho, I think it's a serviceable Spider-Man show at worst. The animation is choppy, but some of the storylines are actually really good.

@KWilly - Yeah, I enjoy this show a lot. They show of Peter's scientific mind, and the fact they have Peter thinking to himself tickles my nostalgia for the old 90s Spider-Man cartoon. Is it a shame Spectacular Spider-Man isn't returning? YES, but this show is servicable.

Plus at least I can watch more than a few second of the show without getting irritated unlike Ultimate Spider-Man (with Drake Bell as VA). I TRIED getting into that show, but it was just awful. It was Family Guy mixed with Spider-Man, and I HATE Family Guy (sorry, but I don't like the humor (American Dad is better)).

Once in a while it can be pretty good but this new season sounds as gimicky as it can get and the promo is cheap, they're not showing anything that lead me to believe they're trying to better the show in a meaningful way. I respect that they stick to it and despite my avatar I'm not advocating for the return of Spectacular Spider-man, but I'd really like a new show with better visual than this aesthetic snooze-fest, even Ultimate Spider-Man which I don't really like had slightly better visuals. I don't think it would be that hard to create a take on Spidey that feels less dumbed down than Ultimate Spider-Man or this show are.
That said in season 2 there was a four-parter named "Bring on the bad guys" (episodes 8 to 11 of season 2) which was pretty good as we see Spidey having to fight multiple villains over a short period of time, dealing with classic Parker luck, fatigue, multiple injuries that cary to the next episode all of which was very reminiscent of the comics and really brought a temporary edge to the narrative. Those episodes are the best the show offered and felt like real Spider-Man to me, I do hope they manage to do more like this but... they just didn't so far.
