Jon Favreau Talks Possible Spider-Man: Brand New Day Return; Sadie Sink Leak Seemingly Confirmed As Real

The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau has revealed whether he'll return as Happy Hogan in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while we have further evidence that the leaked Sadie Sink photo is real.

By JoshWilding - Apr 24, 2026 09:04 AM EST

Earlier this week, a leaked still from Spider-Man: Brand New Day showing Jon Bernthal's Punisher alongside Sadie Sink's red-haired character, rumoured to be Jean Grey, appeared on social media.

As we explained at the time, it had been enhanced with AI—hence the Gemini logo—but it was supposedly a real image. That was "confirmed" by our sources and several social media insiders/scoopers.

Lending credibility to the image's legitimacy is the fact that posts on several of the accounts that first shared it now feature "Media Not Displayed - This image has been removed in response to a report from the copyright holder" messages, where the shot used to be.

That's arguably proof enough that it's the real deal. After all, there's no reason why Sony would hit these accounts with DMCA strikes if they weren't sharing something that didn't belong to them. You'll recall that a blurry first look at Tombstone similarly leaked last year.

In other Spider-Man: Brand New Day news, The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau has confirmed that he won't return as Happy Hogan after previously appearing in Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home.

"I can give you a big spoiler: I'm not in it. He lost his memory," the filmmaker started. "I'm not part of [it], he doesn't remember me anymore. He might meet me again someday, I don't know. But isn't that how the last one ended with him forgetting everything? So now it's all about his new. I don't know anything about it. If I'm in it, they'd better hurry up, 'cause they're running out of time."

While Favreau has got a little mixed up over who forgot what (the world forgot Peter Parker, meaning Spider-Man's secret identity was restored), it seems there will be no reunion with Happy for now.

You can hear more from the actor and director in the player below.

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way HomeSpider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves.

In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time. But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.

He isn't needed anyway. This movie is already overpacked with great CB characters.

I can't wait. This movie should be fantastic if the very overrated director doesn't screw it up.

@DocSpock - Watched the ending of NWH the other day and tbh he could've just said he was spidey when he met happy at may's grave.

@IAmAHoot - Sounds like a big fun smash hit about to hit the box office to me, but I've liked all the other Spider-man films as well as the Captain America films which were all basically team ups like this too.

@Jackraow21 - I recently read the comics that inspired the movie. That enforced my view that we might be getting another Ralph Bohner scenario.

@JoshWilding - Did you really just put “Seemingly Confirmed” in a headline? You don’t even pretend to try for legitimacy anymore, do you?
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 4/24/2026, 9:39 AM
@Lisa89 - For starters, that wording commonly used to describe information that appears to be true, officially verified, or solid, but may not be absolutely certain. Secondly, if I hadn't included "seemingly," people like you—the same ones who called me a "hack" for posting an "AI" image—would be crying in the comments about saying it was "confirmed" without Sony confirming it.
Lisa89
Lisa89 - 4/24/2026, 9:44 AM
@JoshWilding - The words cancel each other out. Something “seemingly” can not be “confirmed” and something “confirmed” can not be “seemingly”. You may have seen someone else using that phrase, but it’s still nonsensical.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 4/24/2026, 9:50 AM
@Lisa89 - You're entitled to your opinion, but it's grammatically correct, specifically as a standard combination of an adverb modifying a past participle adjective.

For example, in a phrase like, "The results are seemingly confirmed," "Seemingly" modifies "confirmed," meaning, it appears to be confirmed, but there may still be some uncertainty.

I have an English language degree and 17 years of writing experience. I'm not always perfect (it's hard to be when the site relies so heavily on me for content), but I know what I'm doing, thanks.
Lisa89
Lisa89 - 4/24/2026, 9:57 AM
@JoshWilding - Your example sentence "The results are seemingly confirmed”, allows for the substitution of “not” for “seemingly”. Would you ever consider putting “Not Confirmed” in one of your headlines? Not even seemingly.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 4/24/2026, 10:03 AM
@Lisa89 - A good attempt at a smart response, but "seemingly" doesn’t mean "not," so that substitution breaks the sentence. It’s about perceived certainty, not the absence of confirmation. I'd give this one up if I were you.

@Lisa89 - dude. It is widely used throughout media and news. always has been, always will be. its a way to say confirmation based on XY and part of a Z. We dont have the whole Z yet but for you out there that can math, its looking so.
So to you I say, it is seemingly confirmed you are a [frick]ing idiot.

Im with wilding on this one. He isnt a perfect [frick]ing writer but y'all hijack a whole threat over the use of the term Seemingly confirmed---which btw is a legitimate phrase. Like I told Lisabitchalot: Its meant to convey to the people that have reading comprehension that we have XY and most of a Z but not the whole thing.
if this is all yall have to complain about congrats.
leave the dude alone.

@JoshWilding - There have been examples of copyright bots taking down AI generated images though. For example: Nintendo took down some AI-generated images of Mario. Usually when something is a real leak there is a widespread purge of it on social media, but that’s not what we’re seeing here. The image are still many tweets hosting the image (including one that has nearly 3 million views). So far, I’ve only seen two tweets where it was taken down: The account shown in the coverage and a tweet that account retweeted.

Most of the "top" insiders confirmed it was legit right from the get go, at least a couple of them have had that image since the Tombstone leak.
Gnostic
Gnostic - 4/24/2026, 12:17 PM
@CrimmLives03 - JuanEditzs is the only “insider” who said they had this image and he isn’t really a scooper. Alex was the only one who “confirmed” and he said Knull was the main villain of Brand New Day…

That said, the image is still up on many posts on Twitter (including a tweet with nearly 3 million views). When sometime is a real leak there is mass purge off it on social media platforms like with the leaked trailer for Brand New Day. It seems that a copyright bot targeted that the tweet that were used in coverage but left all the other tweets alone. Copyright bots sometimes target AI-generated images, like that Nintendo bot that targeted AI images and fan art of Mario on X.

@Fogs - Naw, I think those people are genuinely being possessed. The movie is adapting elements from Spectacular Spider-Man: Dissembled and Spider-Island. The main villain of those storylines is the Queen (Ana Soria) - a mutant who has similar psychic powers as Jean Grey. She’s known for mind controlling people and making them commit crimes like we see in the trailer.

Things can’t be ‘seemingly confirmed’. They are confirmed or they are not. If you need a qualifier, it’s not confirmed. Usually for something to be confirmed, someone involved in the project has to say ‘yeah, it’s x’, or it has to be officially announced in some way.

@Spiderfan2226 -
We live in a Quantum universe.
Everything exists in a state of superposition (of being confirmed or not confirmed simultaneously), until we observe it (...by going to watch it in the movie theaters) to confirm or not disprove it.

Don't worry.
Even one of the brightest minds humanity has ever produced in Albert Einstein, also struggled with this concept and was mostly a skeptic.

Ergo......Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan is both in the movie,....and also,..... not in it.
Only when you go watch it will it determine his state, either way.
Consider this.....the Schrodinger's cameo.
