Late last month, you may have noticed a lot of very lucky people taking to social media to reveal that they had been sent review codes for Spider-Man 2. Most of them were video game journalists and critics but others appeared to be "influencers" (many of whom had fewer than 1500 followers on Twitter/X, for example).
We're still not 100% sure what Insomniac was thinking being quite so generous and it's a strategy which appears to have backfired. Why? Well, as we first reported on GameFragger.com, spoilers for the long-awaited sequel have begun doing the rounds online.
While we won't be sharing those here, they include screenshots and videos, including details on the boss fights, key plot details, and even gameplay features which the developers have been keeping under wraps. Needless to say, it's a disappointing, albeit expected, outcome.
Twitter/X, Reddit, and TikTok are all full of leaks, so if you're curious and want to go looking, they're not hard to find. However, we'd advise avoiding social media if you can because there's a lot out there that may well ruin the experience of playing Spider-Man 2 for you.
With just 10 days to go before the sequel swings into stores, we'd advise caution while perusing the internet but rest assured we won't be spoiling anything here!
Many fans who have decided to willingly check out these leaks are now more excited than ever to get hands-on with Spider-Man 2 so, if nothing else, we will take that as a good sign...
"Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other, and the ones they love," reads the game's synopsis, "from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat."
"Explore an expansive Marvel's New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear."
"Wield Peter's symbiote abilities and Miles' explosive bio-electric powers in battle against new and iconic Marvel Super Villains," it continues, "including an original take on a symbiote-infused Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and more from the Marvel Rogues' Gallery."
Spider-Man 2 swings into stores on October 20.
