A lot of people are unhappy with Electro's design in the upcoming installment in the Spiderman Cinematic Universe titled The Amazing Spiderman 2 mainly because it's "inaccurate." Are these complaints valid? Invalid? Lets find out!

Here are some pictures of Electro's design in the comic books:

These are some photos of past adaptations of the character:

Here is Electro in The Amazing Spiderman 2:

VERDICT:

I don't understand all of the complaints of Electro's design being unfaithful to the comic. It looks pretty faithful to me. Now, there are differences of course. Instead of either being green and yellow or simply purple, the suit is black. But is black really that different from purple? As a matter of fact, the lighting in some of the images make to suit look dark purple (or at least parts of it). It's still got the lightning bolt, so no complaint there. Some people have tried to say that Electro isn't blue in the comic, but in reality, his skin tone switches from Caucasian to yellow to blue depending on the comic. He doesn't have any facial scars in the movie. He is bald in the comic. I don't how it's unfaithful.

I've seen some complaints that he doesn't have his original Silver Age design in the film:

I don't know why people would complain about a single costume that Electro has had in the comics. I mean, nobody complained that The Joker resembled the Lee Bermejo design instead of the classic design in The Dark Knight. And that's just one of the many examples I could have gone with. And even if they would have gone with Steve Ditko Electro, I can imagine a lot of people being upset because of how outdated he looks in the film. I see it as a lose/lose situation. Are people just angry that Marvel Studios isn't doing this movie? Is it something else? Your thoughts below.

I think it's really close to the ultimates version. I like the look of it tbh.

Believe or not, I have seen a lot of complaints on this site about how inaccurate Electro is, though it is true there are a lot of others that just think the design looks stupid in live action period. I have also seen comments complaining about how Sony didn't put any effort into their Electro because they were scared the yellow star-fish mask would look silly in live action (a ridiculous complaint if you ask me). But you're right about how some people just thought it didn't look right.

Most of those comic book pictures in the article are actually the 616 Electro. This is the Earth-616 version:

People complain because that's all comic fans know how to do. Especially on this site. Comic fanboys are close-minded, their creative centers locked tight and the key thrown away.

The starfish looks awful. You kids need to seriously get over yourselves. The drawings are flamboyant because it's a comic book. It's not about real people. It's about superheroes. So yes they'll have apes and cowls. But when you're watching guys urge with electricity on screen you're going to wonder.... Wait... He's basically on fire how is his starfish mask still on? Why is he wearing a starfish? He should just be electricity. Not some caricature of a man with electric powers.

There's a realism in this film that adds weight and takes away campy bullshit

I honestly can't see how Electro could look any better than what they are doing with him in the big screen adaptation. I also feel that while the three villains in TASM2 are deviations from the comics original look, I feel that Electro and most of all Goblin have the potential to be Spider-Man's greatest villains so far in the big screen. I feel Foxx and DeHaan will do a killing job in their respective roles, can't wait for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

@Wallymelon hit the nail on the head. Things that work in the books don't always translate well to film. Hence Transformers-Rhino.

I love blue (Ultimate) Electro. That green and yellow suit would look like utter dogshit onscreen.

I love Electro's look in TASM2. One of the best looking villains I've seen for a CBM. Although not nearly as cool as Winter Soldier.

Electro has always sucked as a villain. The Ultimate look was always cool and it was the most logical choice for the onscreen look because, the yellow and green costume with the mask is ridiculous. But, we got a great team behind, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx as Electro and for once, Electro is written as an interesting character. Despite lacking a little bit in development in The Amazing Spider-Man, The Lizard was a great villain. We're getting Electro, Goblin and a taste of Rhino in the sequel. Here's hoping that Goblin lives to see the third movie plus, I would like to see the Symbiote be introduced in the third, Peter kill Harry, etc etc and we get Venom as the main villain. Plus, side plot with Mary Jane. Anna Kendrick for Mary Jane, maybe? I just think despite building to Sinister Six, the third movie is going to be naturally dark. So, I think it would be best for Goblin in the first 45 minutes of the movie and the rest be about, Peter, Mary Jane and Venom.

I honestly think Harry Osborn is just the Proto-Goblin. After he uses the Goblin formula, Oscorp can perfect it so Norman Osborn can become the true Green Goblin. This is just what I think, though. Also (if anybody remembers): Irrfan Khan was originally supposed to play the Proto-Goblin (as Nels Van Adder, not Harry Osborn) in the first Amazing Spiderman movie but he decided he didn't to play a super-villain so they changed his character to Dr. Ratha.

I think it's faithful. I dont understand why people demand a yellow and green suit in which i think wont work on screen, so i dont mind the use of the ultimate design and the new 616 design of Electro because it makes the character seem more modern and grounded.

I think Sony has done a great job in the design of Electro and Jamie Foxx's portrayal of the character from i've seen in the trailers makes the character some what menacing.

I'm not happy with the design of the Goblin though. I think it would have been better if there was a mask or a hulk like goblin like in the ultimate comics.

Great article by the way, you've schooled the haters on the design of Electro and i'm proud of that..

Who cares. Does anybody actually understand how ridiculous it would look to have a guy (white or black) dressed in a skin tight, green and yellow costume?! He would loook like a freaking sunflower. and thats not really menacing! IMO i'm glad that they are giving him a new(ish) look. I just hope the story isnt as flawed as the first one. This could have great potential.

I think it makes sense how he looks in the movie. I think his outfits in the movie fit him and makes sense. He starts with that hood and then goes to prison and they give him some kind of containment suit that's black and it ends up being used as his final suit

its not just blue electro like in some of the comic books, cartoons, even video games. yes he's blue but he does actually have a costume/super suit, which is what i like. i was upset at first, because electro was always one of my favorite spdierman villains, but i mean the original version. they always talked about going the ultimate route with the first one then casting jaime foxx worried me they may go for the ultimate version in just that plain black outfit. and i never cared for "blue" electro. but he's got the jacket hoodie on for one of the big fight scenes and he looks pretty cool in that but I'm just happy they DID give him a super suit with a design and everything. its new, but I'm still happy he has a costume.
i think he'll be amazing on screen!!! realllllllly looking forward to those fight scenes and wanna see him just "snap" and go off.

id rather blue electro + suit/costume over plain ultimate electro wearing that black leather outfit or whatever that was with the lightning bolt vneck. i think he'll look awesome when he gets his costume.
