It's not official, El Mayimbe is just saying Marvel has entered into final negotiations with Butterfield. Which makes it unofficially official, basically.
MrCBM56 - 5/14/2015, 2:16 PM
Perfection.

Brainiac13 - 5/14/2015, 2:18 PM
Perfect!!!!!

Headline is a bit misleading. No paperwork or official word. That being said, Butterfield is an exceptional choice.
SauronsBANE - 5/14/2015, 2:20 PM
It lines up with what we've been hearing though, that Marvel is going to officially announce it in the next week or so.

IF he's right, I'd imagine it's just crossing the T's and dotting the I's at this point.
SauronsBANE - 5/14/2015, 2:20 PM
I'm definitely a fan of this. The kid's got obvious acting chops, he's proven he can handle a big franchise, and he actually looks the part.
MrCBM56 - 5/14/2015, 2:24 PM
The casting will probably get eaten alive by few who want the impeccable alphas, but the way this casting in most ways is the exact opposite is why it works. Ironically, is why Andrew Garfield's casting didn't.
BatmanHeisenberg - 5/14/2015, 2:25 PM
Asa playing Spidey is awesome. Hopefully they start with him sometime in sophomore year and have like two movies in high school, and then see him go to college thereafter.

This!
BatmanHeisenberg - 5/14/2015, 2:27 PM
I hopewe get an announcement by next week from Marvel.
Brainiac13 - 5/14/2015, 2:27 PM
As I'm excited by this news......I feel for Garfield as he got 2 awful scripts to work with...
MrCBM56 - 5/14/2015, 2:27 PM
I think it's most important how they handle Peters' characterization. Which hasn't been done justice since Spider-Man & Spider-Man 2 (In most cases).
BatmanHeisenberg - 5/14/2015, 2:28 PM
WAHHHHHH HE LOOOKS LIKE A HIGH SCHOOOLLER DURRR

Y'know, like he started out?
Reasonnnn - 5/14/2015, 2:28 PM
I dig it. Plus, Marvel hasn't steered us wrong when it comes to their casting.
Hulksta - 5/14/2015, 2:28 PM
When's Jeremy Irons being cast as Norman Osborn?
beto - 5/14/2015, 2:30 PM
Now that we know for sure that DInklage is not Spidey can we have him as JJameson?
LEVITIKUZ - 5/14/2015, 2:30 PM
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Should have gotten Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, or Michael Fassbender.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!
Invictor - 5/14/2015, 2:30 PM
Oh shit. Not bad, I guess.
Reasonnnn - 5/14/2015, 2:30 PM
@Stick It's actually going to be Michael Sheen as Norman Osborn.
BatmanHeisenberg - 5/14/2015, 2:30 PM
I wanna see the official announcement thread.
Mrcool210 - 5/14/2015, 2:31 PM
Well no, we haven't gotten an official announcement so "Asa Butterfield Is Marvel's SPIDER-MAN" is not an accurate title at the moment. I would say more so "Asa Butterfield Maybe Is Marvel's SPIDER-MAN"
SauronsBANE - 5/14/2015, 2:31 PM
"I feel for Garfield as he got 2 awful scripts to work with..."

Same. The dude is obviously a big fan of the character, he did everything the writers told him to do...but he was just stuck with such shitty scripts and a studio that had no idea what they were doing.

That said, he was just flat-out miscast. It'll be nice to finally see Peter Parker as a high-schooler, and NOT have to ignore that the actor is obviously 30 years old.
Brainiac13 - 5/14/2015, 2:32 PM
I'm looking forward to Osborn Industries in the McU. :)
Brainiac13 - 5/14/2015, 2:33 PM
@SauronsBANE

True......can't wait
beto - 5/14/2015, 2:34 PM
Also:

Nic Cage for Norman Osborn
Walter White Jr for Harry Osborn
Ron Jeremy for Dr Octupus
SauronsBANE - 5/14/2015, 2:34 PM
@TheAmbassador It was a joint announcement between both Latino Review and El Mayimbe. Which is why neither of them is claiming an "exclusive" on this story.
DrewDeLand - 5/14/2015, 2:35 PM
I like it
MrCBM56 - 5/14/2015, 2:35 PM
Andrew Garfield wasn't my problem with The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. I have a problem with how he was set to be portrayed (I'll argue he nailed what was given), and the given shitty scripts plus direction was out of his paygrade.

SmellofDuty - 5/14/2015, 2:35 PM
I still don't like him
JamesMann - 5/14/2015, 2:35 PM
"Rumor: Asa Butterfield officialy in talks for MCU SPIDER-MAN"
...that don't make sense CBM.
TheEpicJuicebox - 5/14/2015, 2:35 PM
Better than Natt Wolfe let's get Taron Egerton as Harry now
CombatWombat - 5/14/2015, 2:36 PM

carls256 - 5/14/2015, 2:36 PM
looking forward to see how this turns out if its true...
