Who Does Sam Raimi Want to Take the Helm of the Next Spider-Man?

Who Does Sam Raimi Want to Take the Helm of the Next Spider-Man?

According to a Quiet Earth source, it's none of the names that have been recently tossed around.

His name is Nimrod Antal, and his most recent credit is the action film Armored. He is set to direct the next installment of the "Predator" franchise titled (hold your breath): Predators. How did his name get mixed in with Sony and Raimi to begin with? This comes directly from Quiet Earth:

Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, 'Vacancy'. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct 'Armored.' Now, 'Predators' is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spider-man.'

According to Slashfilm.com, Quiet Earth doesn't usually report vague 'industry insider' source tips; but they have a rock-solid reputation for trustworthiness.

If Sam Raimi does have a say in who the next Spider-Man director will be we'll know once we discover if he is staying on the franchise as a producer or consultant.

MPP - I've only seen one of this guy's films (Vacancy), so I know he would be on my short list to direct a high-school based Spider-Man movie. It seems like his experience is in the action/horror genre. I think we need a director that knows his way around effects and action, but can also play off the teen-angst deal without its being over-the-top and center stage. What do you guys think?

By the way, stay tuned tomorrow for another nine Spider-Man rumor articles. It will be epic.

If Raimi did no wrong with Spider-Man 3, i'm wondering why he isn't onboard himself for the reboot. That explains alot and it also means that he doesn't have a say in who replaces him.

I still say ANYBODY ELSE BUT CAMERON!!!

He seems like the kind of Director rami would like. I mean rami was known pretty much just for evil dead before spiderman so it makes sense that he'd like a director like nimrod whose taken a similar B movie rout to directing.

I don't know if he'd be my choice for spider-man, but I'm interested to see his predator movie.

why not michael bay? i admit the story and script of TF2 was weak, but the directing, special-effects, and total look of the film was awesome. but shouldn't he be able to take a good script and make a good looking movie?

His name... is Nimrod? ouch

Ryden - 1/14/2010, 1:46 PM
i dont know about this guy, i saw vacany and thought it sucked, marc webb or matthew vaughn please....

@foxfan-seriously no, he's just not a good director, he might have cool special effects but he only had that to distract from the lack of plot or character.

He can't direct a good story so unless you want crappy jokes, action sequences thrown in every 3 seconds, action sequences that don't make sense and are hard to follow, racisim, and downright stupidity I would keep Bay well clear of any superhero franchise.

If he wants Vultresses too then he IS a Nimrod rofl

Vacancy wasn't terrible or anything. It could have been worse

I'm not happy with this reboot, it is to soon. To me it would be like waiting a couple years and rebooting Iron Man. Hell, I would have been happy with everyone getting replaced except Tobey and making Spider-Man 4. I thought Tobey did a great job, new director and a new script that is all it needed. There were parts in SM3 that I hated but rebooting the whole franchise, bullshit. Can't change it so screw it. That's the way things are now. One thing, I'm very interested to see what direction they take this. Very curios about who will play Spidey and what villain(s) will be chosen. Maybe we will finally get The Lizard.

I'd say Zach Snyder or Guillermo del Toro.

I like Snyder, I think he's a damn good director, Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen, he's not only good but you know he'll stay faithful.

@ATOMbomb- I don't see how it's too soon. Look at the Incredible Hulk. It was released 5 years after Ang Lee's Hulk came out and it was amazing. When this new spiderman film gets released in 2012 it wil be 5 years since spider-man 3....its not too soon at all.

I dont care about the damn reboot from anyone ( different directors) and stupid Sony .. all I want is Sam Raimi is the perfect one on Spiderman 4...I know there are so many thousands or millions fans are very disappointed with Sony's stupid decision to reboot....I will not watch the new reboot Spiderman NO WAY !!!!!

Ozy, all the sex and gore was in both comics of the related movies he did. So why would you suggest he'd put that in Spider-Man? That doesn't make any sense.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 1/14/2010, 1:54 PM
I agree he'd rock at those, but I love his style of cinematography and I think it would work very well with the Spider-Man.

And del Toro would be just awesome if he took the helm. Also, J.J. Abrams would be tight.

I bet SAM RAIMI doesn't give a sh1t who takes over after the way he's been treated by SONY!!!

And i too am disgusted how they all have been treated!

Hopefully RAIMI will say good things but i doubt it

Oh by the way thats just my opinion lol! ; D

Yeah but the first Hulk sucked and it didn't have a foundation. Its not like they made three films and then replaced Bruce Banner. I would like to see the new Spidey film down to earth, like what they did with Batman. A lot more like the comics and based in reality.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 1/14/2010, 1:56 PM
Well for one Spider-Man wouldn't be able to go beyond PG-13, and two the sex scenes were relative to the comics they were based off of. He didn't pull those out of his ass you know what I mean?
Stumblin
Stumblin - 1/14/2010, 1:58 PM
ATOM, I thought the first three movies is probably as close to realism as you'll get with Spidey. His villains are pretty fantastic in terms of realism, I think they just need to fix the writing, make Spidey the wise ass he really is and stay true to the original comics because their was nothing wrong with Spider-Man's origin, the way Stacey died, or how Uncle Ben was killed and all that jazz.

Stumblin - 1/14/2010, 2:00 PM
Yeah but it's also rate R, my first point Spider-Man wont have any gratuitous sex scenes just because Synder directed it. A lot of movies have sex in it, so I mean what's your point? And also, the sex in Dawn of the Dead was still relative to the story at least, I mean you got a bunch of people trapped in one spot for a long period of time, yeah I'll probably want to bone a chick before I start craving brains too.

MULTI @ Damn thats one big comment!!

I can see your point man, but i have a question for you, what if ....

They do high school but ignore source material??

It just feels all to TV for me, like a TV series, but im all for it if it works, well it looks like its gonna happen anyway.

I hope your right about SONY coz right now ive got as much faith in them as FOX and LIONSGATE...

Thanks for the comment!

@Ozymandias: I agree Snyders style is wrong for Spiderman. As for me I wouldn't mind seeing Paul Thomas Anderson take a swipe at it.
Also i noticed the Pats Logo. I'm a season ticket holder. Last week was rough.

Yeah, I'm talking about the little things. Goblin looking like a power ranger; rubber suit would have been awesome, with a creepy Halloween mask. Peter creating his own web material like in the comic books. The balloons in the first film, during the parade. Obviously CGI and I won't get started about SM3. I will agree Spidey wasn't a complete smart ass like he should have been but he had his moments.

I know, this is between you and MPP so please excuse me. Why would they do that and risk more fan backlash? They're not stupid. Some of the recent flops in CBMs were:
1. Not Sony
2. Proof that violating source has consequences.
Spidey has a following that will leave little room for error. That is what is motivating this move in the first place.

Anyone else think Jim Sturgess would make a good Peter Parker? After seeing him in 21, I think he'd be fantastic for the role!!

I have to laugh at Ozy. He calls for Snyder to direct everything from X Men to Superman..but not Spider-Man! Dude gore n sex doesn't belong in those movies either.

I haven't seen any of Antal's movies..but he sure has assembled a great cast for Predators..who knows.
