The character (played by Elizabeth Banks) didnt really have too much screentime in the last three movies, but according to Showbiz Spy, a "movie insider" has told them that she'll have a much larger role and that Marc Webb already has an actress in mind for who should play her!



"Betty was a minor character in the previous Spidey movies but Marc has big plans for her. He wants a strong performer to carry the role and Zooey fits the bill perfectly. The role is hers if she wants it."


It's worth remembering that Betty Brant was Peter Parker's first love interest for a little while back in the 1960's, so could that be the big plans that Marc Webb has for the actress? Although I'm hoping to see Gwen in that role, Deschanel is a fantastic actress and seems like a great choice, so here's hoping it works out!

Oh, and in a slightly pointless bit of trivia for you, Zooey's sister (Emily, star of TV series Bones) was actually in Spider-Man 2 as the receptionist Peter delivers pizzas to at the start of the movie. You learn something new every day, huh? :)

The currently untitled Spider-Man movie is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

GREAT - Betty Brant as the eternal stoner! Zooey comes off as nothing more than a zonked-out pot-head! Name ONE film of Ms. Deschanel's that DIDN'T have her giving her signature 'Wow man, far out... You got a twinkie?' performance - just ONE!

It looks like they are setting up a long series of characters for future movies: they start with Betty Brant, which leads into Gwen Stacey (who most likely dies), then ultimately Peter ends up with MJ

well it looks like there doing a good job with the casting, i hope they dont think just by getting big names in the movie it will make it good. we have all seen that mistake before

I agree. Great casting choice. I am still wondering who is going to be cast as Jonah J. Jameson? I reckon there is no one else who can do it except for J.K Simmons.

I thought she'd be a good Lois Lane, but Betty Brant's pretty much the same but is more open to interpretation. I think Deschanel can really make this part her own. Best thing I've heard about this dumb project so far. Well, that and the no MJ thing.

she may have been Spidey's 1st love interest, but I always got the feeling she was more into him, than him into her, even the dialog of that strip, showed that, Peter saying he was hiding in a closet and she said that may be why she likes him so much,

I seriously love her.
I would leave my girlfriend of 4 years, if there was just a possibility of us hooking up.
That being said she is a good choice for a lot of things, but I'd rather see her as Lois in MOS.

Great news - I've been ranting about this character every chance I've had and I'm glad they're going to use her properly.
It'll be interesting if they use the story arc involving her brother and his subsequent demise, as I remember this was quite tragic and it set the tone for the Parker/Spidey duality and his complicated relationship issues.

I now think this reboot could be a lot better that the Raimi films.

Never thought I'd say that!

I agree. But everyone is pushing her to play Betty, so who are we to judge?

I'd rather her play Sandi Brandenberg in "Deadpool", since her oft-kilter brand of humor would play off strongly against Ryan Reynolds.

Oh, and Zooey's got amazing cleav.

Elizabeth Banks was great in the Raimi films, but not enough of a role, shoulda been bigger.

Zooey is just blah to me. Nothing special. But maybe she'll be good in this.
