I've been waiting on this movie for along time. The early buzz from the trailers were great, but now the movie is taking a beating from critics, are they right or just to harsh? My money is on this film, I can finally say the DC universe delivers on a fun comic book movie film with a ton of style and a perfect cast of characters. Without spoiling the movie for those who haven't seen it, I love how this movie picked up shortly after the effects of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. By doing so, it allows DC to further their future stories like Wonder Woman and Justice League which are both coming out next year. One of the biggest parts for me in this film for me was the team! I absolutely loved the way the team worked together especially the relationship between Deadshot and Harley Quinn. I loved the way they all united together on this mission. I was locked into the tone director David Ayers used with pop music early on to set up the different characters we were going to meet. It was cool to see the individual personalties of the squad and how different they were. Honestly, I was worried about Will Smith's Deadshot, not due to his acting abilities but because of his star power.
Storyline wise I cared about his character the most out of everyone because they set-up his story really well. I also thought the sprinkling of certain DC heroes that we knew were going to be in the movie was also done very well. Now on to the biggest reasons why this movie is a success for me. Margot Robbie's version of Harley Quinn is Iconic, I loved how flawed she was in the movie. Robbie's Quinn doesn't look or sound like anything we've ever seen before. You could tell right away this is a woman that does what she wants and is uncensored. She was strong, smart, and a bad ass through out the entire film. Her performance is every bit of daring as Johnny Depp's Jack Sparow. I feel like we've only seen the beginning of what Robbie will do on film as Quinn, I have my fingers crossed that her along with Joker are in the stand alone Batman movies that are coming in the future.
Here's my take on Jared Leto's version of the Iconic Joker. Batman greatest rival is by far one of my favorite book villains of all time. Last year, I'm not going to lie I was scared that Leto would bomb as the joker. I actually liked his version, It was a different take on him compared to Ledger's (who's is still better in my opinion) That doesn't mean Leto's Verison sucked, actually I would be more afraid of Leto's joker than Ledger's if a ran across him on the street. We all knew Leto would have to be perfect to knock Ledger off the throne as the best Joker. Maybe being in a stand alone Batman film would further answer the question of how good can this version of the Joker really be? From what I saw out of him in this movie, I definitely want to see more of this verison in the upcoming DC films. I'll give Suicide Squad 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars!!!!
