THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Comments On Ridiculous Rumor About Superman Getting A New Face

There's been a pretty bonkers rumour doing the rounds this week about a post-credits scene for The Suicide Squad featuring Superman, but it's now been debunked by writer and director James Gunn.

Earlier this week, a new trailer for The Suicide Squad was released that definitely saw an increase in excitement for James Gunn's first movie in the DC Extended Universe.

However, one big talking point was the filmmaker's decision to follow the comic books (which, let's face it, is no bad thing) by having Bloodsport end up in Task Force X after shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet. Some fans don't like the thought of the Man of Steel becoming a punchline in this movie, while others are hoping for some sort of cameo appearance.

Since the trailer dropped, a rumour has surfaced from one of Twitter's so-called "scoopers" ("fan-fic writer" might be more apt) claiming that The Suicide Squad will feature a post-credits scene with Lois Lane learning that Superman was shot in the face by Bloodsport. While the hero can be saved, his injuries would require facial reconstructive surgery.

This would obviously serve as a way of recasting Henry Cavill, but there's no truth to the claim.

That was confirmed by Gunn during a recent Instagram Q&A when he responded to the description of this stinger by saying, "Haha! Please tell me that's a real rumor!"

"Real" probably isn't the word we'd use, but it has been gaining some traction online over the past few days. Ultimately, we have no idea what the plan is for Cavill's Superman, though it is beginning to look increasingly unlikely that the actor will return to the role. Instead, Warner Bros. is moving on to a new version played by a Black actor in a standalone feature as well as Sasha Calle's Supergirl.
