We recently found out that director James Gunn was developing a The Suicide Squad spinoff series for HBO Max that'll focus on John Cena's Peacemaker, and the show has now added another key supporting player.

Deadline reports that Grammy and three-time SAG ensemble winner Danielle Brooks has signed on to star alongside Cena and Steve Agee, who will reprise his The Suicide Squad role as John Economos.

Brooks, who is best known for playing Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, will play Leota Adebayo, who, as far as we know, is not an established DC Comics character. The trade doesn't provide any details on how Adebayo will factor into the plot.

We still don't know a whole lot about this series, but a brief synopsis reveals that it will "explore the origins of Cena’s Peacemaker character, a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it."

Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and is expected to helm several instalments. He’ll also serve as EP along with Cena and The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran.

UPDATE: Deadline is now reporting that Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland and Chris Conrad have also joined the cast.

Patrick will play Auggie Smith, Conrad will portray The Vigilante/Adrian Chase, while Holland will reprise her Suicide Squad character from the upcoming movie, NSA agent Emilia Harcourt who works with A.R.G.U.S. to monitor The Suicide Squad.

Robert Patrick? Bad-ass.
Really dug the two-issue arc that Alan Moore did on Vigilante, but don't know shit about that actor

@DaClungerlorian - you can bet the quality will be cinematic level like Disney+ because

A) it’s James Gunn
B) they’re definitely forking over serious cash for this

@BornToLose - god I hope so, Mando has completely spoiled me. I know GOT looked great but them Disney budgets got their shows looking almost movie quality.

@DaClungerlorian - oh totally. That shot of Vision in the Wandavision trailer when he’s up in the sky looking down at the town at night? I was like goddamn that’s cinematic.

I expect HBOmax will follow suit. They're trying to hold onto Gunn and he wouldn’t allow anything subpar to be released.

Vigilante, great!

The question is if he will be against or with Peacemaker.

I honestly thought Idris Elba would be portraying Vigilante in The Suicide Squad but we were told that was not the case. Not familiar with Chris Conrad but at least we are finally getting Vigilante!

So I’m guessing we’re looking at early 2022 for this to release then Gunn will do GOTG 3 which my guess will be out in 2023.

@MovieMonster - I think it's meant to debut right after the film next year.

This new suicide squad is one of my most anticipated cbm films, but making a spin off before people can react to these characters may be WB, again hitching the cart before the horse
