SUICIDE SQUAD Sequel Lands WARRIOR & THE ACCOUNTANT Director Gavin O'Connor
Another day, another breaking news story out of Warner Bros. - but luckily, this time it's good news as multiple sources are reporting that Gavin O'Connor has signed on to write & direct Suicide Squad 2!
Multiple sources have confirmed tonight that Warner Bros. has tapped Gavin O'Connor to write and direct their upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.
Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and Jared Leto (Joker) are all expected to reprise their roles from the poorly received original film, which was helmed by David Ayer.
The studio has been quite eager to get this film rolling as soon as possible, but a recent report has suggested that due to the busy schedules of the film's two biggest stars - Smith & Robbie - that filming was unlikely to begin until at least Fall 2018, so it's unclear whether this move will accelerate that timeline or not. Smith just began principal photography on Aladdin today and is expected to follow the live-action Disney picture with Ang Lee's Gemini Man. Meanwhile, Robbie is currently busy filming Mary Queen of Scots.
O'Connor is probably best known for his critically acclaimed sports drama Warrior, which starred Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton, and last year's action thriller The Accountant, which starred Batman star Ben Affleck in the lead role. In addition to Suicide Squad 2, he is also in various stages of development on a new big-screen adaptation of Green Hornet and a sequel to The Accountant.
