Henry Cavill Hopes Not To Follow In The Footsteps Of SUPERMAN RETURNS' Brandon Routh

Since appearing in 2006's Superman Returns, Brandon Routh seems to have flown off the radar. Henry Cavill is hoping that the same won't happen to him after this summer's Man of Steel! He also comments on the possibility of playing James Bond and more. Check it out!

You would have thought that playing Superman would have opened a lot of doors for Brandon Routh. Instead, his career never seemed to really take off after Bryan Singer's ill-fated take on the DC superhero, despite memorable appearances in the likes of Chuck, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. "I certainly haven't got my mind set on failure," he said when asked by Empire Magazine if he's worried "about pulling a Brandon Routh and disappearing" after the release of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. "That is a bad approach - you want to strive for success." As for what he has lined up next, his schedule is clear, but James Bond is still on his mind. "What a wonderful challenge to follow up Daniel Craig. He has set the bar so high." What would you guys like to see Cavill do after Man of Steel? Justice League certainly seems like the most obvious answer, but that really does depend on how Superman's return to the big screen goes in June...

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: June 14th, 2013.

Cavill is too young for Bond.

But I could see it working maybe...

The teaser trailer already was better than Returns

If Henry Cavill doesn't wanna play superman. He would make a great Clark Kent. ;)

Cavill would have to really suck in order for that to happen. If he does a good job, I would not be suprised if almost every studio starts wanting him for roles

I was just thinking the other day that this guy would make an amazing James bond! Imagine Chris molan directing with cavill as 007! I say Cavill or Hardy for the next 007!

It won't happen !!

The last trailer is already better than the entire Returns.

Superman Returns was very very very bad ... made by a bad director ... who killed X-Men and especially Cyclop and who'll kill the new franchise X-Men created by Vaughn and the future X-Men Days of Future Past !!!

In the end he'll probably surpass Christopher Reeve. Routh was the only decent thing about returns. At least he was good on Chuck.

He's not too young for Bond. Craig has 1-2 more films in him yet then Cavill would be the same age Craig was when he was cast...he was too young ten years ago though.

That's good that Cavill doesn't want to follow Routh's footsteps because I don't think it would be possible. No offense to Cavill but I don't think he can live up to Routh and his performance in Returns.

Singer ruined Routh's career for the time being... besides, Cavill had a more extensive resume than Routh to fall back on. If Snyder had did Superman Returns perhaps Routh would be the bigger star today.

EITHER WAY, Snyder should bring back Routh as Bizarro, created by Luthor and CADMUS from DNA left from the battle with General Zod, to close the loop from Superman Returns.

It's sad, but when I see Brandon's Superman now, all I can think of is that weird filipino guy that had all the surgery to look like Brandon's Superman. Creepy.

Routh's performance was one of a kind. He had Christopher Reeve's Supes to work with and he pulled it off perfectly. Cavill on the other hand has to be a different kind of Superman so he has more pressure to deal with of being his own Supes. I wish him the best.

Superman returns pid to much of a homage to the 70s superman but this is a different beast and Canill will totally own the character

Speaking of Routh, it would be great to see him play the Eradicator in a future sequel.

"Cavill IS SUPERMAN!" "Cavill IS SUPERMAN!" Amazing how people keep saying that crap BEFORE they even see the film. Same thing was said about Routh and about Garfield with Spider-Man. Every generation has their own VERSION of these heroes but there will never be any one actor to be THE version of a superhero. EVER.

Routh is on a new show on CBS called "Partners". I haven't seen it, he's not a good actor at all, one magazine dubbed him "The Poor Mans Keanu Reeves" lol. Aside from having a resemblance to Christopher Reeve, Brandon had no right starring in that movie. Its pretty apparent that he wasn't up to par when it came to acting because he has like 5 lines in the whole movie, i know the writers were basically re-writing the movie through out the entire shoot, so they probably restructured the script to be carried by Kevin Spacey. That was the first thing i said to myself after i saw SR, "Mannn, he was barely in the movie."

Henry is a good actor, i remember seeing him in "The count of monte cristo" like 10 years ago and i was like ya kno if this kid was a little older he really would be a good superman...provided he can do an american accent lol. I know he was casted by McG but i do remember reading an article with the costume designer in which he said he felt that Superman needed to played by a man and not a kid, henry was only 21 at the time.

I think Henry would be great in as the next 007. He will have aged nicely by then. And Bond doesnt have an age limit. Is all in the story.

Dear Henry,
Despite my crush on you- I can objectively say you have nothing to worry about. Brandon Routh cannot act. He can do a mediocre Chris Reeve impersonation and a sub par gay man impersonation. He does have a hot wife so kudos to him for that but otherwise Henry you'll be just fine. Now- as for next project....ummm yeah you can lead the Justice League against the forces of Darkseid.
Thanks,
Baroness

Nice. I love how you're tearing apart the Empire article into little pieces and using it for hits. It's not like we can all go to MrCavill.com and click on the scans that they made of the entire article. And singling out an entire CBM post just to diss on Brandon Routh's career? Loved it. It's not like he's a human being instead of an emotionless comodity.
