JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Confirms Brainiac Would Be Lead Villain In MAN OF STEEL 2

Talking about his latest movie, Army of the Dead, Justice League director Zack Snyder has confirmed that had he made a Man of Steel sequel, the spotlight would have been put on the villainous Brainiac...

Man of Steel saw Superman square off with General Zod, and while Michael Shannon's Kryptonian proved to be a formidable foe, there was someone else many fans would have preferred to see.

We are, of course, talking about Brainiac. The popular villain has been a thorn in Superman's side for decades, and while he's made appearances on the small screen, we've yet to see a big budget version of him in theaters. Had Zack Snyder made a Man of Steel 2, though, it would have happened.

"We talked about a Brainiac movie," he told Bro Bible, referring to a second standalone Superman movie. "I do think that the Kryptonians that are in the Phantom Zone are probably still around. And there was always a possibility for their return. Faora and whoever’s left. That was a thing that was always out there that we talked about as a possible sequel."

"I just think it’s best to give Superman these extraterrestrial challenges because I think you’ve got to be careful with - other than Lex Luthor, because, of course, you have to continue with Lex, because Lex is his real nemesis - but I think you really have to look outside of the Earth for challenges for him because of how powerful he is," Snyder concluded.

While we know that the Army of the Dead director had a five-part "trilogy" planned, there was no mention of another Superman movie  (unless he planned to helm it after Justice League 3).

It certainly would have been interesting to see Snyder's interpretation of Brainiac, and we now just have to hope that he appears either in the Black actor-led reboot or even Supergirl's solo outing.

This wasn’t his plan a couple of weeks ago? Guys been sitting on the toilet too long reading more fan theories.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - he does say ''possible sequel''. That said, everything appears to have been the plan at this point yeah

@bkmeijer - sure, anything’s a “possible sequel” in context. But this guy is literally just throwing darts at a dart board with ideas now.

And he’s being so self pretentious that he thinks we want to hear his ideas, get outta here Zack and start promoting your other movie that’s coming out.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - yeah, and that other movie looks way interesting than any of his DC plans anyway.

''I think you really have to look outside of the Earth for challenges for him because of how powerful he is''

I beg to differ. A villain doesn't have to be more powerful, if he is smarter. Just look at how Terminator 2 has T-800 on one side, and the T-1000 on the other side.

That said, I do think Brainic would be a cool villain. Just under a different writer and director though.

I do admit the T-1000 is also stronger than the T-800, but especially in the first act it's a strength vs. smarts fight (and that's what I'm referring to)

@bkmeijer - especially if Superman’s biggest threats, have been weaker and smarter than him. One of Superman’s weaknesses, is the psychology of the character. Superman and Lois are displaying that brilliantly.

@bkmeijer - Lex Luthor is not a challenge to Kal because he's physically superior but because he's smart, convinced he's right and in a twisted sense has his heart at the right place

Exactly!

I think something Zack notes about Superman’s power is what makes it more interesting to see him in stories and settings where he has to hold back. Now Braniac is a great villain, but I think I’m also a bit worn out with Superman vs a super powered big bad that we’ve gotten with Zod, Doomsday, and now Steppenwolf.

A classic dynamic of Superman vs Lex could honestly rival that of Batman vs Joker in The Dark Knight when it comes down to conflicts and ideology clashing. If done right of course.

It actually sounds like a fun party game to try and guess how Snyder would ruin random DC characters based on his absurd interpretations.

Brainiac could be a variety of things; overacting nutjob, walking CGI explosion scene, pretentious thematic villain making commentary on technology going too far, some deformed attempt to clone Superman using a supercomputer or whatever, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Would Brainiac have assimilated the internet and spammed it full with #restoretheSnyderverse hashtags and bullied people into submission?

What’s all this talk of Henry Cavill being fired? Snyder just trynna jump on that band wagon and get those fans riled up. Pretty sure no doubt abt it

His Justice League “trilogy” was supposed to end 20 years in the future. His team has previously said that BvS was MOS2. And back when WB tentatively announced their 10-film slate — that only included two JL films (not three) and also that Cyborg film that never happened — Snyder said he planned to walk away because 10 years would have been enough. Snyder never had plans for a standalone MOS sequel.

It's historically been difficult to get Superman movies made. So in hindsight, Brainiac should've been the villain in MoS. I would've preferred Snyder's version, over nothing at all.

I know it appears to be the thing to do on these threads but I neither love or hate Snyder. His films, mostly, haven't been great but they haven't been as bad as some make them out to be, at least to me. Personally I thought "Man of Steel" was a decent movie. Don't get me wrong I did have a few problems with it, but overall there were more pluses than minus'. And I would not have hated on Snyder attempting a "Man of Steel 2" with Brainiac being the primary foe. The potential is definitely there if handled right. If you can say one thing for Snyder, with the one big exception of his choice to play Lex Luthor, his casting has been pretty good. The problem with any of his WB movies, and other WB films as well regardless of Director is that the studio does not have a Feige to control things, and that specifically means to reign in any out of control Directors. If they could ever solve that problem with the right person, I think you would see the WB product improve a 100 fold, which at this point ain't sayin much.

@Mugens - I don't hate Snyder either. He's capable of making great movies. 300, Watchmen, and Dawn of the Dead were all great. But that just tells me he is good at adaopting existing stand alone stories that don't have characters with 60 hears of history behind them.

But all of this Snyderverse stuff has really befome annoying. Him and his followers were able to convince WB to pay another 70 million to let him finish his version of JL. And now that thats all behind us, and he knows people are bugging WB restore the Snyderverse, here he is again fanning those flames with his "ideas" that he had for movies that never got made. Although now its different. No other movies were worked on, so now he can come up with literally anything and say it was always his plan to make this movie this way. Or that movie that way.

Its just annoying now. He needs to move on.
