Henry Cavill may not be returning to the role of Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher series now that he's officially hung up the red cape, but he has lined up another fantasy adventure project: a live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40,000!

The news that Amazon had acquired the rights to the popular miniature wargame and enlisted Cavill to star and exec produce broke on Thursday night, and the former Superman actor has now taken to Instagram to confirm his involvement and share a heartfelt message with his fans and fellow 4K players.

"For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.

To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen. Our first steps are to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends."

We still don't know which character Cavill is set to play, but Boss Logic has shared a mock-up of the actor as Mephiston (apparently)!

I imagine this is why he left The Witcher.

@AmazingFILMporg - I still don’t understand how BossLogic got so many celebrities to notice him.
Datrinti & Rafael Grasetti are so much better

@AmazingFILMporg - BossLogic's "skills" haven't improved whatsoever over the years. The guy watches basic youtube tutorials and recreates sub-par work, and it shows on a constant basis.

I hope this does not interfere with him playing James Bond if offered the role!

@Forthas - Very unlikely. The same reason Gunn didn't want Cavill, age, is a big problem with Bond too. Agree with it or not, the Broccolis publicly said they wanted younger this time. Look at Craig's era; he went from brand new agent to dinosaur past his prime from Casino Royale to Skyfall. He won't be like an 18-21 year old Bond, but closer to 28-30 than Cavill, who will be 40 in a couple months.

@DalekCraigWasson - The longest serving Bond is daniel Craig an dhe started at 38..not much difference. Craig is probably the most successful. I am not sure Cavill's age is that much of a factor.

@DalekCraigWasson -

What is up with everyone obsessed with age?

RdJ was cast as iron man in his 40s.💁

Alot of actors are doing physical roles well into there 60s!

Gunn just didn't want Cavill. It's simple . And now rumor has it peacemaker and Margot Robbie are safe in their roles which makes the reboot excuse fall flat on its face.

Gunn is doing a Gunn reboot not a complete reboot that will further divide the fanbase.

Gunn better reboot it all😐

So this may just be me, as someone who doesn't play or paint Warhammer... But I can't help but feel they should scale down the size of the suits/armor for the television screen.

Maybe it's just how things looked in the Warcraft movie that has tainted the big bulky suits look for me. But I feel like the tiny heads and massive armored bodies looks kind of silly when realised in live action. I mean no slight to the art design of Warhammer of course. It just doesn't cross over well into real life I don't think.
