Henry Cavill may not be returning to the role of Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher series now that he's officially hung up the red cape, but he has lined up another fantasy adventure project: a live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40,000!

The news that Amazon had acquired the rights to the popular miniature wargame and enlisted Cavill to star and exec produce broke on Thursday night, and the former Superman actor has now taken to Instagram to confirm his involvement and share a heartfelt message with his fans and fellow 4K players.

"For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.

To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen. Our first steps are to find our Filmmaker/Creator/Writer. Watch this space, my friends."

We still don't know which character Cavill is set to play, but Boss Logic has shared a mock-up of the actor as Mephiston (apparently)!

@AmazingFILMporg - I still don’t understand how BossLogic got so many celebrities to notice him.
Datrinti & Rafael Grasetti are so much better

@AmazingFILMporg - BossLogic's "skills" haven't improved whatsoever over the years. The guy watches basic youtube tutorials and recreates sub-par work, and it shows on a constant basis.

He posted this almost 24 hours ago and it’s just getting a story here? Smh…

As for the artwork that is the absolute last character I’d want Henry to be! That fan art has him as Mephiston the most powerful astartes psyker in the galaxy and overcame his chapters gene flaw. I would love to see cavill as a noble and strong character but Mephiston is literally the creepiest character in the blood angels and is known for making his brothers unsettled with the way he moves and talks of death. Give him a righteous character!

@RorMachine - cool but it still should’ve been on here! It was a big story. I had friends who haven’t played anything warhammer related since we were kids sharing this and reaching out. Plus it was a big announcement for a man who had been in like 6 of the last 10 articles in the last few days. Not to mention his insta exploded after he posted this.I know you’re doing your best to keep up but just because it’s a subject you don’t know much about doesn’t mean it should be ignored on the main page.

@TheFireForce - agreed I mean there have been some articles posted here having nothing to do with comic movies, but because it has an actor who just happened to had been in a comic movie it gets posted.

I hope this does not interfere with him playing James Bond if offered the role!

@Forthas - Very unlikely. The same reason Gunn didn't want Cavill, age, is a big problem with Bond too. Agree with it or not, the Broccolis publicly said they wanted younger this time. Look at Craig's era; he went from brand new agent to dinosaur past his prime from Casino Royale to Skyfall. He won't be like an 18-21 year old Bond, but closer to 28-30 than Cavill, who will be 40 in a couple months.

@DalekCraigWasson - The longest serving Bond is daniel Craig an dhe started at 38..not much difference. Craig is probably the most successful. I am not sure Cavill's age is that much of a factor.

@DalekCraigWasson -

What is up with everyone obsessed with age?

RdJ was cast as iron man in his 40s.💁

Alot of actors are doing physical roles well into there 60s!

Gunn just didn't want Cavill. It's simple . And now rumor has it peacemaker and Margot Robbie are safe in their roles which makes the reboot excuse fall flat on its face.

Gunn is doing a Gunn reboot not a complete reboot that will further divide the fanbase.

Gunn better reboot it all😐

For those new to the setting and trying to get some lore I would recommend checking out the first 3 novels in the Horus heresy as that is both pre40k and sets the universe as a whole very well. For those who do like reading outside the wiki pages then this is considered by many to be the single best 40k piece of work created. This is a fan made chapter of space marines assaulting some heretic or traitors working with a mysterious xeno of unknown origin. I will also post the unmade sequel tease, thank you gw…(gamesworkshop went rogue for a while preventing original content being made on YouTube and slapping the creators with a cest and desist before either acquiring or essentially eliminating the creators)

This is an accurate depiction of a battle of a harden space marine against standard troops (mind you a standard guardsman would beat the shit out of a stormtrooper). Space marines are highly resilient but not immune to psychic attack and do not show fear or hesitation in battle. Their “bullets” are actually mini mussels designed to blow up when they’ve reached their target. Their armor is made of thick plates of hardened ceramite and and incredibly difficult to get through however with the gene seed placed in them (the baisis modification that allows they body to be adapted to make improvements over their regular body) to run faster and lift and hit harder than most beings in the galaxy. Enjoy!

@TheFireForce - I’m gonna try and give it another try. The world of war hammer has always been fascinating to me but not gonna lie I’ve been intimidated by the depth of its lore. A LOT to catch up on.

@Arthorious - honestly the best spot to hop into 40k would be the Horus heresy and I’d start with the first 3 books. That is pre warhammer 40k and isn’t the easiest read however it really sets the precedent for what many of the events currently in the setting will revolve around. After that I’d honestly hit up some wiki pages or more novels as most books are great and can really focus on individual chapters, characters, races, or specific battles. After that just have fun! It took me years to really understand anything and there is still tons I don’t know about but learn about it.

So this may just be me, as someone who doesn't play or paint Warhammer... But I can't help but feel they should scale down the size of the suits/armor for the television screen.

Maybe it's just how things looked in the Warcraft movie that has tainted the big bulky suits look for me. But I feel like the tiny heads and massive armored bodies looks kind of silly when realised in live action. I mean no slight to the art design of Warhammer of course. It just doesn't cross over well into real life I don't think.
