As divisive as Zack Snyder's take on the DC Extended Universe may have been, it's hard to find fault with the Superman costume worn by Henry Cavill. It's not entirely comic accurate, though, as the red trunks - which have proven themselves surprisingly divisive in recent years - are missing. Now, the Justice League and Man of Steel star admits he would be open to donning them.
Appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote The Witcher season 2, Cavill was asked by the host about never suiting-up in Superman's "big red underwear."
"[The trunks were] a bit of a hangover from strongmen in the '20s," the actor responded. "I thought it had potential to work. I really loved my suit. I thought it was pretty cool. However, if it were to happen again, I would definitely be open to the idea of adding the trunks in some way, shape or form."
When Colbert joked that they could be reimagined as "tasteful" red thong, Cavill humorously responded with, "only in the back."
Unfortunately, it's starting to look like Cavill's interest in returning as Superman remains relatively one-sided. Warner Bros. plans to introduce Sasha Calle's Supergirl in The Flash and has at least two Superman projects in the works with Black leads (both of which sound like compelling new takes on the hero). There's surely still room for his Kal-El, though, so fingers crossed the studio listens to fans!
