Onslaught star Adria Arjona is reportedly playing either Maxima or Wonder Woman in James Gunn's Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. For now, DC Studios is taking the Spider-Man: Brand New Day/Jean Grey approach by keeping her character under wraps to build intrigue and excitement among fans.
The Andor actress is still being grilled about her mystery DCU role, no great surprise as excitement to see her play Diana Prince increases. Josh Horowitz is the latest to take a crack at trying to get an answer out of Arjona, but she's becoming as good at dodging questions as Sadie Sink.
Responding only with "Yeah" when the interviewer wondered whether she knew who she was auditioning for, the Man of Tomorrow star enthused, "I love my costume. Really like my costume. Both great costumes. Both characters [Wonder Woman and Maxima], if you are a fan of the comics. They have great costumes."
"I'm sworn to secrecy, and I don't like secrets. I hate secrets. I'm so bad at them," Arjona added, continuing to dance around questions about which character she's playing.
Arjona may, however, have let something slip when she mentioned how good it felt to reunite with Gunn and Peter Safran. "You’re like, 'Okay, I’m safe,' especially if you’re playing an iconic character, you want that security blanket." An iconic character? Well, no one would put Maxima in that category, surely?
If Arjona is playing the Amazon, then it's a huge win for DC Studios. She's long been a fan-favourite choice to take over the role of Diana Prince from Gal Gadot, and with no sign of Batman in the DCU, adding Wonder Woman to the mix would be welcomed.
A solo movie starring the hero is reportedly being fast-tracked, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira tapped to pen the screenplay. If work is well underway on that, it could arrive in theaters as soon as 2028.
In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
