Geoff Johns Says Everyone At Warner Bros. Knows How Important SUPERMAN Is Moving Forward

Comic-Con has been and gone and there was no mention of Man of Steel 2. Now, DC Films President Geoff Johns has shed some light on just how important Superman is to the DCEU moving forward. Take a look...

While Superman's image was somewhat redeemed in Justice League (despite his odd-looking mouth), there's clearly a lot of work which still needs to be done with the character and it appears as if another Man of Steel movie isn't currently a priority for Warner Bros. After all, there was no mention of the hero at Comic-Con and with a Justice League sequel unlikely, his future remains uncertain.

Now, Geoff Johns has weighed in on where things stand with Superman and it sounds like the studio is definitely aware of his popularity. "Look, working with [DC Films president] Walter Hamada and [Warner Bros. President and CCO] Toby [Emmerich] over there at [Warner Bros.], they feel the same way. Everyone loves Superman and knows how important Superman is," Johns explained.

"It’s not in my wheelhouse now to really say anything beyond that but... I got into this business because of Superman: The Movie, because Dick Donner directed what I think is still an amazing superhero film but an amazing film — it’s an American film, it’s a classic." He went on to say that the movie actually inspired his work on Wonder Woman 1984 just like with the first instalment.

When do you think we'll see Superman return? Is Shazam! a possibility or are you rooting for a solo movie? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section and stay tuned for more.

@bropous - Donner’s Superman is the benchmark. It’s the predecessor to every modern comic book movie. People like you don’t even think about the fact that Reeves delivered a performance that is basically mimicked by every modern superhero actor, and Reeves really had no basis for his unique performance. He gave us a Clark Kent that was as different from his Superman as night is from day, and in my opinion still hasn’t been successfully accomplished to the same degree. He wasn’t just some actor in a silly suit to kids like me that watched him growing up in the 80s. He was an inspiration. Think things through before painting with such a broad brush.

So where's the announcement then? Y'all had SDCC all to yourselves and while the footage and released trailers were nice, you could have said something.

Will believe it when I see it. Batman has so many critically and financially acclaimed films. The only Superman film that isn't divisive and was a cultural phenomenon is the Reeves film. This is a shame and disgrace. Hire someone who's actually read and understand the comics and understands the character and let them make a great film.

@Comicbookart - reeve Superman won’t work today because people want actions and reeve Superman is kinda boring he hardly do anything and that includes the movie Superman Returns

@zeon00 - True. And I'll just say they should leave the whole Donner Reeves style alone.

They need a filmmaker who loves and understands Superman and his entire mythology completely. Nolan's first Batman film started with Ras and Scarecrow two villains never seen in a Batman film.

They need someone who will reboot Superman and use the great material from the comics. Brainiac, Mxyzptlk, City of Kandor, Mongul. There is no reason to not make a colorful, cosmic reality warping, dramatic Superman film.
