Fans remain fascinated with and very curious about the now infamous Superman movie that might have been from Tim Burton, starring Nicolas Cage as the Man Of Steel himself. We've seen various pieces of concept art and know a little about the script from Kevin Smith, but we have yet to hear Cage weigh in on Superman Lives. Now while chatting to MTV the actor does just that. "The fact that Tim and I were pretty far down the road designing ["Superman Lives"], and I know that with Tim and where I was going to go, we would have done something really special," says Cage. "At least it's out there in the ether that that could have happened, but we don't have to make the movie. It's still interesting to people." Thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign to to fund a documentary called The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, we will most likely get to find out quite a bit more about what went wrong on the production. Either way, whether her got to play Superman or not, Cage remains a huge fan of the character. "I do think that I had the win-win situation, because that character is such a bullseye that you have to hit. He's one of the most precious icons of our country."

I wonder more what would happen if Batman and Robin didn't bomb, and Warner Brothers give a green light to Schumacher to go with Batman 5 with Nic Cage as Crane/Scarecrow.

Would Clooney be back for second time too ?

Im sorry if Im being negative but WHO CARES?!]

If theres one thing that annoys me about this site is news articles about failed movies from years ago. Stop filling up the pages of this site with news about movies that didnt even happen. Concentrate on the upcoming movies that is happening. Who gives a [frick] what Nicholas Cage thinks about a movie that never happened! Sorry, just my personal opinion

Yes! Just think about the potential that giant spider could I have! Superman in a bold contemporary costume of black and silver! Imagine the excitement as the taxicab races through the city delivering the man of steel just in the nic of time. Picture the drama as Superman stops in mid-fight to push his bangs out of his eyes.

Yes it would have been very "special"

They should turn this into a DC animated movie (i.e. Superman/Batman Apocalypse). Get Burton to direct, and use Cage's voice for Superman.

@superMANofsteel

gotta think who was hot back in that days ...
If they would go for unknown it would be Farrel.
If someone famous then ... David Duchovny
(he was second choice after Clooney )

Supermna 4 was pretty bad (yet I loved it as a kid) but I actually think this would have been worse. All the "special" jokes have been made by previous posters.

Cage stated this on MTV

"I was in my camper. He said he was going to do another installment of 'Batman' and that he'd like me to play to Scarecrow, which would have been a lot of fun. I must admit, especially with Joel, because he and I share a similar sense of humor," Cage said, but the discussion never went further than that. "It was literally an hour lunch, and that's as far as it went."

If Buscemi was the choice, he was probably second

This article is important because the events in it altered the course of CBM history and had effects the continued to be felt by WB/DC comics on film for years.I heard that the death of Superman would have been worked into the film and Michael Keaton as Batman would have had a cameo in the film.

It was only the fact that Batman and Robin bombed that caused WB(which was dominating CBM's) to step back from CBM's like a Batman 5 (Which I heard the studio was also looking at Howard Stern as Scarecrow) and Superman Lives to make room for Marvel films to get the genre back on track.

Everything we are talking about today from,Marvel Studios,
DC Entertainment,Fox,Sony was effected by that change of course.
I think that is important.

I have a better question: who cares about you not caring? Did anyone force you to click on this? Didn't think so. Many of us love to find out more about failed projects, many times they're more interesting than movies that were actually made.

Don't listen to these clowns, Nic! I still love you.
