Its such an incredible story how Crowe met Cavil all those years ago, and now he's playing his father iin a movie.

Actors always make everything they do seem extremely difficult.

Even voice acting.

"I had to tense my throat and work my cords four hours before rehearsals every day for two weeks."

Come on.

If you never been on stage or in film, then you have no clue what some thespians do to elevate the character they are playing. The guy who plays Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead stays in character during the whole shoot. Heath Ledger was so engrossed in his Joker role that it is what led to his death with the medications that he needed to help with the dark depression he fell into. Gotta give respect to those who dive into a role to become someone completely different then themselves. It is the same for many Marvel movie actors that train day in and day out preparing for a role. It is very taxing on the body. Christian Bale is another example of the extremes and actor will go to.

Awesome article, as usual. Crow as Jor-El was definitely a bit of inspired casting. One little peeve though...

Honestly, this is about as much a remake as Chris Nolan having remade Burton's Batman, Joe Johnson having remade Albert Pyun's Captain America, Dredd being a remake of Judge Dredd, or Marc Webb just recently doing a bang up job remaking Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. = D

Reboot, re-adaptation or just simply upcoming blockbuster film would all be more apt than remake as this has very little in common with Donner's Superman outside of shared characters.

@DCMulti

Method acting is an interesting thing. It can be great and it can be awkward. On the set of Monster Squad the child actors would try to talk to actor Tom Noonan(Synecdoche Ny, Manhunter)between takes, especially during the treehouse scenes. The actor who played Rudy would really try to break Tom, but he wouldn't budge. Stayed in the whole time. Not sure if they had laserdisc commentaries at that point, but.... :-D

@Kyos - agreed. Man seeing Crowe's performance of Javert was a little cringe-worthy. It made me sad. It hurt to not like Crowe in anything

Also, I feel like his Lego should be in a different suit than Superman...just saying..

I think casting Crowe as Jor-el was brilliant. An excellent actor who really throws himself into his part.
