Sarah "Ursa" Douglas Disses Dead Reeve

English actress, Sarah Douglas, who played Kryptonian criminal "Ursa" in Superman II, feels free to defame Christopher Reeve now that he is dead--calling him "difficult" and "dull."

Douglas, spoke out about her true feelings for Reeve, who died in 2004 from a heart attack after years of being wheelchair-bound following a horse-riding accident in 1995 which left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The 55-year-old apparently admits she wasn't his biggest fan on the sets of Superman and Superman II, insisting he got wrapped up in playing the beloved role.

According to Britain's Daily Express, she said: "I've never really spoken about Christopher because he is no longer here to defend himself.

"But I used to be continually asked about him and, choosing my words carefully, would always say he's very much like Clark Kent: a real gent - very polite and perhaps a little dull.

"I never really knew him that well. I socialised with everybody else but not him. But at the beginning he was a very fresh-faced young American and at the end it was difficult. He definitely got caught up with his own Superman image."

Douglas said, "I suffered a lot of back injuries on Superman and could only walk for about an hour on the wires during my flying scenes and then had to have an hour off. And Christopher didn't take too kindly to the fact that this slowed things down so it was a bit tricky."

She also says actress Margot Kidder, who famously portrayed Lois Lane, also found Reeve hard to work alongside.

The actress claims that when she finally revealed her feelings to co-star Kidder, she replied: "Oh he was a right pain."

Douglas added: "I was so relived that somebody else had found him tricky. You don't want to speak ill of someone who has had a terrible accident. But my understanding is that after the injury everybody said he was a changed man and became an incredibly humble and generous guy."

Maybe Reeve was a bit of a tool back then, but the guy suffered a terrible tragedy, and then died before his time. That chick is cold!

I tend to disagree w/ ComicBookMovie and Powergirl.

She is indeed entitled to her opinion and has actually known him.

He was the biggest star of his time when he did the Superman movies. And just like any Rising star that literally comes out of nowhere and lands the biggest role possibly EVER, I'm sure he got a little conceited.

She may not have spent much time w/ him outside of filming, but she knew him better than we did, and he may have been dull.

and before you start spamming me w/ hate messages and disagreements, I love Reeve's performance as Clark/Supes. I thought the world of him as a little kid.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take this next comment in a wrong/mean/hateful way. But maybe that accident is what he needed to help him get over himself. Yes it's sad that it happened, and i also wish it hadn't.

But think about it...what if he didn't have his accident. He would probably still be that same guy, all wrapped up in his previous Superman image. If he was still that guy, he wouldn't have done all the MARVELOUS charity work.

You have to remember that while Reeve played Superman, he was just a normal human being and has flaws. People make him god-like and think he was perfect when in reality NOBODY is perfect.

So maybe, just maybe, you guys could think of him as Cristopher instead of Superman and actually think about his flaws for once. (not meaning to sound rude)

It could very well be that he was a total pain in the you know what and a little dull.

I love how when someone says their honest feelings about someone at the time its seen as cold if they have since died or whatever, sure she could carry on the myth of public perception but she knew the dude and didnt like him, she was only answering honestly to a question posed....now where was i? oh yes THE COLD HEARTED BITCH!

Words are words and opinions are opinions, SGA [10/8/2008 2:50 PM]; Christopher Reeve is not here to defend himself. ¿Uh?

Sarah Douglas is, for me, what we use to call a 'bitch' (in the worst sense).

Take a greet.

ok, Reeve isn't here to defend himself...and seeing as how he was an honest man, he'd be the first to tell you whether he was conceited or wasn't.

as for the "Words are words and opinions are opinions". that's true. so while all of your opinions of Sarah Douglas is a "bitch" just for not liking one person while the rest of the world loves him just because she knew what he was like in the 70 and 80s is taken into account...but you also have to remember, she is human and has her own opinion...and that it was formed around 30 years ago...that's a lot of time, and time changes people, so maybe he was a jerk. we'll never know.

there's lyrics to a song that says "Opinions are immunity to being told you're wrong. Paper, rock, and scissors all have their pros and cons."

We could argue who's a bitch and who isn't and tell others our opinions of Reeve, Douglas, or each other, but in the end it'll get us no where.

so maybe we should just drop this. It's going to be a pointless argument that goes on in circles for a long time...I know. I've seen it happen in the forums over and over and over again.

Well..., SGA, surely 'bitch' is an excesive form to define this woman. Maybe I don't truly understand its meaning because I am not a natural englidh speaker -not excuse here for me anyway, sure that means what I think it means-.
But..., what if I change 'bitch' in order to say something like 'bad peson? Will you agree? Don't forget the implicit 'bad action' in the Sarah's calumny or injury. Uh? ; )

SGA, I would like to enjoy this kind of forums oftenly but I realize about my limits using english. I think that I am a very good spanish's language user and/so I feel too shy using yours, so I don't want to try to go beyond my present powers in this english language. So, let me use those phrase shown by ComicBookMovie [10/8/2008 3:07 PM]: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
Well..., I hope ComicBookMovie accept gladly this my paraphrase...
And let's try to understand the implicit inner meanig in that phrase (and similars), let's try to understand that nobody should use third persons (usually to call for his/herself attention in detriment of the used person). Christopher is dead and he was a person (with a lot of known friends). Sarah maybe is in jealusy or maybe she simply disliked him, but Christopher was what he was and not what 'Ursula' wants. I don't want people to decide who I am. Do you?

O. K, SGA, finally I want to say that I suppose that you are only trying to put some balance into the extreme. Good action if it is. But let's try to be carefull about that 'moral relativism' that push us to finally defend the 'madness'. : /
Hope you understand what I try to mean (beyond words used); please excuse my possible grammatical errors. ^^
Take a greet and be welcome.
Thanks. : )

I understand what you mean. I'm just trying to say, see it from a point of view other than Reeve's public appearance.

I know he was a good person after his accident, i'm just merely suggesting that what this woman said MIGHT be true.
He might not have been a very good/friendly person BEFORE his accident.

She may be saying this to spite him because of dislike, or might be stating the truth.

Just because these fans think the world of Reeve (i do too), that doesn't mean he was without flaws.

She has a right to her opinion, and so do they. but they can't say that she's wrong about him. They don't know, because they never met him.

So, is it me or are some people not distinguishing that "Ursa" is talking about Reeves BACK THEN? If you really want to talk about someone who is an ass on set, talk about Mike Myers.

She is not the only one that has said that Reeves was difficult to work with BACK THEN. It has nothing to do with his unfortunate accident. And she is not a bitch for saying these things. He doesn't have to be here to defend himself on this.

He made an enormous contribution to the Superman name, fans, story, etc....... At the time he was perfect for the role. BACK THEN.

I can guarantee you that there is an actor, actress, rock star, t.v. star, t.v host, sports figure, or anyone in the entertainment business, that you love, that is almost unbearable on set or in person. But that is the nature of the beast. It is the people who pay the money for the tickets, toys, DVD's, and whatever else a movie project might sell that matters. That is why they do it.

So, who cares what her opinion is. She was giving just that. An opinion. She wasn't calling him a horrible person or creating any type of slander. He was "difficult" on set and that's that.

Thank you very much musicman for agreeing w/ me.

I don't see anything wrong with her comments. I'm actually surprised about Reeve's attitude towards Sarah's back injuries on set slowing down filming, and still she called him a gent when asked. She actually ends on a positive note, how the accident made him a better person. Often it takes an awful experience for a person to "wake up". No body is perfect and we all have a chance at redemption.
