Why the hell is Martha Kent holding a gun?!?

I've been watching the show the whole time and I always defend it against the 'Smallville Sucks' clowns. But WTF is Martha Kent holding someone up for? Its MARTHA KENT!

Its dumb enough that they made her a senator, but if they make her the 'red queen', someone highly involved in back-stabbing, cut throat, covert-ops politics I'll probly be irrevocably disappointed.

i still like the show but even i will agree that it appears she is the red queen, and thats a bit ridiculous.
