SUPERMAN: LEGACY - Mr. Terrific And "Blitz" Rumored To Appear; Could We See Lobo?

Some (potential) updates for James Gunn's Superman: Legacy here, and it sounds like Man of Steel mainstays such as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor will be joined by some surprising characters...

We're still no closer to finding out who will step into the Man of Steel's cape for James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, but we do have some intriguing new rumors to add to the list.

Previous reports have indicated that Gunn might be planning to introduce more than just the core Superman characters (Lex, Lois, etc) in order to lay the groundwork for future DCU projects, and we may now have some idea of which heroes and villains the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director has in mind.

According to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Warner Bros./DC Studios are currently casting for Mr. Terrific and a female character called "Blitz." We assume this is Jennifer Blitz, a powerful DC Comics Metahuman, but there are other possibilities.

Speculation is also mounting that Lobo might put in an appearance, mostly due to Gunn recently signing off his Tweet about only one actor being cast in the movie so far with a merman emoji! This might be a bit of a stretch, but Aquaman star Jason Momoa has been rumored to be taking on the role of the Main Man for a while.

As far as we know, David Corenswet (House of Cards, Peal) is the frontrunner for Supes, but Jacob Elordi (Euphoria), and Andrew Richardson (Extrapolations) are also said to be in the mix. Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Emma Mackey (Barbie), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream VI) reportedly read for Lois Lane.

Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) is believed to be "the only person" who is being considered for Lex Luthor at the moment.

Take it easy and one step at a time instead of just beginning with tons of established heroes. What is the rush?

Mr. Terrific isn't yet as mainstream as most of the projects that were announced, people need to get to know who Michael Holt really is and how he is a legacy character that took on the mantle from Terry Sloane, the Golden Age Mr. Terrific from the JSA and he is also now a member of the JSA that consists of veteran members and new generation, like him.

Would be funny if Gunn just rushes in like this instead of taking his time. The Arrowverse built and built, maybe it'd be wise if he looked at it and took some DC worldbuilding cues from it.

@NinnesMBC - No I don't think he going to rush in.Its not like he is doing Superman going to jump straight into BatmanvSuperman and then right into justice league What kind of person would do that?

@NinnesMBC - To replace Snyder with Snyder 2.0 would be so [frick]ing disheartening as a long time DC fan. I think that would be the ultimate last straw for me, tbh.

It's a genuine concern as well. Look at the evidence.

1. Gunn says the DCU will be a universe where superheroes already exist.
...Because that makes sense. Unless you are clearly explaining the metagene then it's cartoon logic and will not appeal to general audiences.
Niche universe incoming (remind you of another version of the DC universe?)

2. The Justice League cameod in Peacemaker season 2 with Ezra and Jason as Flash and Aquaman. He seems to be continuing Peacemaker with a season 2 and Waller.
(maybe they will be replaced by the Creature Commandoes in a flashback or something, but maybe the Justice League have already assembled and Ezra and Jason will not be recast. That's doubling down on what didn't work with Justice League).

3. The Authority is the second movie.
A team of disparate heroes. They didn't all get their powers from the same circumstance like the Fantastic Four, they're not all mutants like the X-Men, they all have different explanations for their powers. And the first movie is a team movie. This will be seen as a spoof, a la The Boys. Not a serious universe that the world can become genuinely invested in.

4. Sneider's rumors. I know they're just rumors. What he says is not canon. This isn't the Jeff Sneiderverse. But still, they're kinda beleivable.

I'm worried.

If this truly is the way that Gunn is going then PLEASE consider explaining the metagene to the General Audience.
Something like this:

The very first thing the X-Men movies did was offer the concept and then the movie would take pains to set up the world we were in with the debate about mutant registration, etc.
Then an even more full explanation at the begininng of the second movie for those who didn't get it in the first movie.

People may be familiar with Superman, but they are NOT familiar with metahumans or the metagene. And mainstream audiences are not hardcore comics fans who will accept any superhero thrown at them, with little to no explanation.
But with one simple expositional introduction they'll get it. They'll be like 'Oh! Like mutants, but they're powers are activated by different things!'.

This is THE most important piece of advice I could give Gunn. He probably doesn't even need it, he's probably got this well in hand, but as a long-suffering DC fan I have cause to be worried.
