Last night, James Gunn posted some photos of the comic book covers adorning the walls of the Superman: Legacy art department office, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director has now returned to Instagram to share an artist's depiction of one of the DC Characters that'll be making their big-screen debut in the upcoming DCU reboot.

The artwork spotlights Michael Holt, aka Mr. Terrific, who will be played by X-Men: First Class actor Edi Gathegi in the movie.

Gunn doesn't specify if this is official concept/promo art or a fan-made image, but it could give us some idea of the character design he'll be going for.

In the comics, Michael Holt is known as "the third-smartest man in the world." He's the second hero to take up the Mister Terrific mantle after Terry Sloane, and while he doesn't have any actual super-powers, his T-Spheres make him invisible to technology.

We're still not sure exactly how Holt will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's lives as both Clarke Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that Mr. Terrific will be one of his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Casting is currently underway for Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen and Perry White, and now that the WGA strikes has come to an end, announcements may be forthcoming.

The Righteous Gemstones actor Skyler Gisondo was recently rumored to be a "top choice" to play Jimmy, while brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are said to have tested for Luthor along with one-time Superman candidate Nicholas Hoult. Gunn has yet to weigh in on any of these reports, however.

Barring any delays, production is scheduled to commence next January.

You know, Mr terrific is one hero that needs a new live action appearance. His t mask just doesn't look right in live action. The cw did it perfectly but it came out looking goofy af.

It would be great if Mr. Terrific has cybernetic eyes connected to his brain that receive images captured by the T-Spheres.

@Forthas - so is he not allowed guest stars or supporting cast that are heros? out of a two hour movie they may only amount to 15 minutes total for all we know. its still a Superman movie.
Forthas
Forthas - 10/5/2023, 9:45 AM
@supermanrex - He is allowed to have guest stars...but listen to your own argument...if he has only 15 minutes of screen time why does he need to be highlight in his role in a reveal. It would be like if I highlighted the warriors three in Thor Ragnarok. If he has a more significant role then my fear is that he is repeating the massive mistake of BvS by show horning in characters that will take away from what should be the main focus.

@Forthas - while the fear you have is warranted, I still love the idea of the supporting cast being made up of superheroes rather than boring human characters.

We've seen these throw away humans make up the supporting cast in every other superhero movie. I'm ready for something different. Building out the world with superheroes is an exciting idea to me. Maybe it'll actually feel like a world inhabited by metahumans.

@Forthas - The amount of time y'all spend worrying about a movie that hasn't even started production yet. Man. I seriously worry about y'all.

@ClintThaHamster - If you come to this site then you worry about this just as much as anyone else or if not this something else that most people would find silly.

@Forthas - Nah, I just like to follow movie and entertainment news. I'm a comics fan, and I like to talk to my friends who are also comics fans about casting news and such. For example, with this movie, we might say "Oh, cool, Mr Terrific and HawkGirl are in the next Superman movie!" but not "This obviously continues the onerous trend of James Gunn's tendency to overstuff his superhero movies with new characters and scenarios, I just know that this movie–and, by extension, the DCU as a whole-is doomed to be a massive failure!"
Forthas
Forthas - 10/5/2023, 3:40 PM
@ClintThaHamster - But you are still worrying about it...not necessarily negatively but it is still taking up your time to consider and talk about.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 10/5/2023, 4:32 PM
@Forthas - Sure, if you define worrying as "thinking" then yes. I'd define worry more as nagging negative thoughts. For me, I'm glad they're making the movie, and if it's not good, well, neither are most movies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And don't get me wrong, I've been plenty let down by plenty of movies, but I've never once in my life found myself concerned about being let down by a movie before day 1 of production.

I like this casting though I think it could've been a little more electric with someone like Damson Idris or Lakeith Stanfield. Still, Edi is an underrated actor and glad he gets another CBM shot.
