With Hollywood's actors on strike, it's going to be a long time before we get any official casting news for upcoming superhero movies like Fantastic Four and Superman: Legacy.
That's unlikely to slow the rumour mill down, but earlier this month, it was confirmed that James Gunn's Superman reboot will feature Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Such a large number of superheroes being thrown into the mix has raised many an eyebrow, but the filmmaker insists they're essential in order to show the "super" side of Clark Kent's life. Of all those additions, however, we'd argue that Hawkgirl is probably the most exciting.
Last October, DC fans were disappointed when she was absent from Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson previously said there was a good reason for that, though Kendra Saunders was never mentioned (so if there were sequel plans for her, they were being kept a closely guarded secret).
Now, some newly revealed fan art - by @youssef_defenshi - offers an idea of what Merced could look like suited up as the DCU's badass new Hawkgirl.
Superman: Legacy won't mark Merced's superhero movie debut as she's set to play Anya Corazon/Spider-Girl in next year's Madame Web. We don't anticipate seeing the actress suit up there given Sony Picture's track record, and it may well be a one-and-done appearance.
"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."
Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.
