Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn has confirmed he'll be heading down a comic-accurate route with the movie's Jimmy Olsen, and a reliable scooper may have revealed who will play the fan-favourite photographer.
If this rumour is to be believed, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Skyler Gisondo is being eyed for the role. He played Gwen Stacy's brother in the Sony Pictures blockbusters and definitely has the necessary attributes to bring Jimmy to life on screen.
Aside from those two Marvel movies, Gisondo is known for his work in Vacation, Booksmart, and Licorice Pizza. On television, he's starred in Santa Clarita Diet, Fairfax, and The Resort.
Casting has been paused amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, so we're not anticipating this being made official any time soon. If it's false, Gunn may choose to weigh in on social media to debunk the rumour, but Gisondo would be a good fit for Superman's best pal.
Jimmy first appeared in the pages of Action Comics #6 in November 1938. He's previously been played on screen by Tommy Bond, Jack Larson, Marc McClure, Michael Landes, Justin Whalin, Sam Huntington, Aaron Ashmore, Michael Cassidy, and Mehcad Brooks.
"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.
