Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn has confirmed he'll be heading down a comic-accurate route with the movie's Jimmy Olsen, and a reliable scooper may have revealed who will play the fan-favourite photographer.

If this rumour is to be believed, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Skyler Gisondo is being eyed for the role. He played Gwen Stacy's brother in the Sony Pictures blockbusters and definitely has the necessary attributes to bring Jimmy to life on screen.

Aside from those two Marvel movies, Gisondo is known for his work in VacationBooksmart, and Licorice Pizza. On television, he's starred in Santa Clarita DietFairfax, and The Resort.

Casting has been paused amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, so we're not anticipating this being made official any time soon. If it's false, Gunn may choose to weigh in on social media to debunk the rumour, but Gisondo would be a good fit for Superman's best pal.

Jimmy first appeared in the pages of Action Comics #6 in November 1938. He's previously been played on screen by Tommy Bond, Jack Larson, Marc McClure, Michael Landes, Justin Whalin, Sam Huntington, Aaron Ashmore, Michael Cassidy, and Mehcad Brooks.

"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.

@ObserverIO - let's face it, at this point casting a red head to play a red head would have people accuse them of racism.

Like what happened with fan art of the recent superman cartoon where they made Jimmy a red head again.

@Origame - Quite the assumption on what "people" would do and why they'd do it. Doesn't make it very reasonable to get angry over, but there's difference between casting a white red haired actor to play a white red haired actor and something else casting that character as black and others adding other features to that for it to fit what they want.

@Feralwookiee - It is, in fact, legal.

@dagenspear - I mean what I described really happened. The cartoon made Jimmy black, a fan made a drawing of this version of Jimmy but as his classic self (being a white red head), and people called him racist.

But this is also a reference to the insistence in Hollywood in general to replace red haired characters with black actors.

@Origame - I figured.

Don't think it's racist, necessarily, but that doesn't make it the same as casting the character as white.

@dagenspear - so let me get this right, do you think casting the character as white racist?

I hope he continues the Jimmy Olsen tradition of getting two lines of dialogue before getting shot in the face.

@santoanderson - He had more lines then that before Doomsday killed him in Smallville.

@Cap1 - I've seen him in a few things, most noticably The Santa Clarita Diet and he was probably my favorite character on that show. Kid is a stand out with the right material.

I'm 100% for him as Jimmy.

He’s been a top fancast for years. Fits the rumor mill off of that alone

@GhostDog - If this kid gets the part then it all but confirms a theory of mine. With James being so active on social media I think he's taking a look at these fancast. If he thinks the actor might fit I think he takes a look at some of their work and if he likes it invites them in for an audition. Not saying he solely is casting fan picks but if they have what he wants in the audition then they win it and if not at least he gave them a look.

@Steel86 - I believe it. I could definitely see that
Th3Batman
Th3Batman - 7/21/2023, 11:47 PM
@Steel86 - That's not a bad way of doing things, especially considering how the previous DCEU went out of its way to miscast nearly everyone for nothing but seemingly shock value. Working with a cast that fans can get behind is the first step to ensuring the movie succeeds at the box office.
Steel86
Steel86 - 7/22/2023, 1:05 AM
@Th3Batman - Exactly what I was thinking. And like I said not just giving them the job but if they win it then extra bonus.
