This unused scene, which cost $10 Million to shoot, would have been the opening to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns but the director chose to leave it on the cutting room floor..

"In the context of this movie where this movie needed to begin and what it needed to be about, I didn’t feel it. It’s just one of those things. No one told me to do it, to make these cuts. I had no time restrictions nor pressure whatsoever. I just felt the movie doesn’t need this, so I did something else instead."

The scene is a feature on the eight disc Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology set which is out now on Blu-ray and DVD and features teh following movies and Superman related projects..

Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Billion Dollar Limited, Destruction Inc., Electric Earthquake, Eleventh Hour, Japoteurs, Jungle Drums, Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman, Mechanical Monsters, Secret Agent, Showdown, Snafuperman, Stupor Duck, Super Rabbit, Superman, Superman Returns, Superman and the Mole Men, Terror on the Midway, The Arctic Giant, The Bulleteers, The Magnetic Telescope, The Mummy Strikes, The Underground World, Volcano and You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman

Awesome scene. Too bad the movie wasn't as good as it could be. I liked Routh as Superman, he surely had the looks. Cavill will do Reeve justice!

I had no idea the effects on this scene were so complete! They definitely should have included it.

they should have included it to vary the pace of the film, it would have answered what many of us fans wanted to see, the remains of the planet!

Corpse - "Cavill will do Reeve Justice"... You're completely missing the point mate... Cavill isnt supposed to Reeve Justice! He isnt supposed to have anything to do with Reeve. Those films are old, dead, and buried. Man Of Steel is going to be something new which will stand apart from everything that has gone before it.
Oh, and I actually rate Brandon Routh as Superman, and think he should be given the Justice League gig if Cavil, Bale, Reynolds and co are not involved.

@MrEko: Because this is the only scene to ever cost double digit million dollars, right? wrong. Shut up and either enjoy the scene or not.

This scene other than the plane saving scene in the movie, would have been worth seeing.

This scene reminded me a little too much of Titan A.E. No wonder they deleted it. Plus, it was as boring as the rest of the movie. You know, the one where they turned Superman a.k.a "The Boyscout" into an creepy stalker that is also a deadbeat dad.

Something that never really made any sense to me, though. Since this movie is supposed to take place in between two others what ever happened to Superboy? Just one of the many GIANT ƒuckups in this crapfest, including trying to get a Superman that looked just like Reeve. It should've been its own movie.

Nice visuals, but ultimately just as boring and nonsensical as the rest of the movie. This film was such a misguided mess, I don't even know where to start.

i think this scene would have explained the entire premise of his absence, his return to smallville, and it would have helped us care a bit more when he lifted the gigantic landmass into outer space. the beginning of the movie was him searching for his home planet and find destruction. the end was superman casting krypton out of earth. it would have linked the story a bit better.

The look of Superman Returns was spot on. The action sequences were pretty good too. I loved every last one of them. I just would've liked to see Superman throw down, and Lex wouldn't allow for that. It shouldn't have been a third part in the Donner family.

wow.....that was dumb, the ONLY reason kryptonite hurts superman is when it is under a YELLOW SUN if the planet krypton was bad for superman how the hell did his race live there before the planet blew up? just shows how unintelligent and unimaginative bryan singer is. also i really find it lame when they used the giant s, whenever they use the s symbol like that it really takes me out of the story. how is it that aliens are going to have the same symbol as english? i've never understood that even when they do it in the comics. bring on man of steel and please in the name of all things under our yellow sun let it be amazing....but i'm not holding my breath....

Really...to me i never saw REEVE in Rouths looks....performance yes.....but really CAVILL has more of the same mannerisms that REEVE had. I think that CAVILL will remind people more of REEVE than Routh ever did. Just my opinion. This isnt to say that ROUTH was bad....just saying that CAVILL seems more like REEVE... and if CAVILL doesnt return as Superman in a followup movie i hope that WB does bring ROUTH back.
