This unused scene, which cost $10 Million to shoot, would have been the opening to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns but the director chose to leave it on the cutting room floor..

"In the context of this movie where this movie needed to begin and what it needed to be about, I didn’t feel it. It’s just one of those things. No one told me to do it, to make these cuts. I had no time restrictions nor pressure whatsoever. I just felt the movie doesn’t need this, so I did something else instead."

The scene is a feature on the eight disc Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology set which is out now on Blu-ray and DVD and features teh following movies and Superman related projects..

Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Billion Dollar Limited, Destruction Inc., Electric Earthquake, Eleventh Hour, Japoteurs, Jungle Drums, Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman, Mechanical Monsters, Secret Agent, Showdown, Snafuperman, Stupor Duck, Super Rabbit, Superman, Superman Returns, Superman and the Mole Men, Terror on the Midway, The Arctic Giant, The Bulleteers, The Magnetic Telescope, The Mummy Strikes, The Underground World, Volcano and You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman
