Jonah Nolan Not Directing?

“Jonah was never offered anything, apparently some fans just imagine he may have the talent that his brother has. The WB has not made an official offer to Jonah, he is involved in the script and future treatments to it.”

This part will disappoint some fans:
“As of now David Goyer has a better shot of landing this gig. While in discussions he noted mistakes made in other movies he has directed, this apparently is not a strike against him. To his credit, the WB believes the experience is actually a positive aspect of hiring him. They like that he has worked in this genre in quite a few capacities, and trust that his time with Nolan has also been well spent.”
I actually agree with that sentiment entirely. Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. Goyer has recognized his mistakes and could potentially learn from them and hit it out of the park. That is a very strong sentiment there and it builds a lot of confidence in Goyer for me.

Christopher Nolan has been elevated to a rare status in Hollywood. Trust.

Its beyond being a fan and appreciating his work. When Nolan says he picks a certain actor, people don’t question it. They assume he has a plan, and that it will all work out. Most other directors, no matter what kind of reputation they have, if they make a questionable decision its Guilty Until Proven Innocent. Nolan inspires something different than that.

His brother, while a gifted writer has no directing experience. Should we hand him over a massive franchise that if done poorly would bury the character for a long time (otherwise known as the Schumaker Syndrome. See Batman) But rumour reports Nolan says he wants him to do it and people say its fine.

If Nolan said Uwe Boll was directing the next Superman, fans would just say “that’s fine” and assume that Nolan had a talk with him or will be watching closely.

hey even Donald Trump has filed for bankruptcy and even Warren Buffet bought myspace... Goyer's done some great things and some terrible things but with the Nolans behind him im sure everything will be ran through the proper filters.

not a big fan of uwe boll. if any of you guys see the movie rampage. its not very good, its just kind of sloppily thrown together with random flashbacks of memories that havent occurred in the characters life yet. i for one just dont want a c-list director in such a big name film like this

A filter is exactly what Goyer needs. Great writer, but so far, terrible director. He has needed a good director to filter his scripts down to something coherent and workable. I certainly hope he has realized his mistakes. They have been many and unfortunate.

You should really put what movie he will not direct in the title.
If someone wasn't in the loop they wouldn't know you were talking about Superman until half way through the article.

That being said.

I vote Martin Scorsese or Danny Boyle to direct, and Josh Hartnett for supes

Either way, it's win. Goyer could pull through.

I say JJ Abrams would be a great choice. I think the tone and look for Star Trek would fit well with Superman. Has Goyer ever had a hand in anything that wasn't "dark"?

Is there a reason no one ever mentions JJ Abrams? I think he'd be pretty good for Supes.

F*ck Goyer. Hiring him to direct it would be one of the shittiest moves WB could make.

Good. Just because he is related to Nolan doesn't mean he would be a good director.

Ok no to Goyer!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 8/12/2010, 1:13 PM
Brashlight: I know he didn't slaughter a baby, but Goyer seriously sucks at directing. It's a little difficult to give him a chance when he's directed such classics as The Unborn, The Invisible, and the cherry on top, Blade: Trinity. WB NEEDS to knock this movie out of the ballpark, and hiring Goyer is not a step you take to achieve that.
