Thanks to Hero Complex, we have a first look and details for Warner Bros.' Man of Steel online video game tie-in, "Metropolis Mayhem". According to the site, it launches today at metropolismayhem.manofsteel.com and can in fact be found there right now. As they point out, "The 2-D game allows players to fly Superman through Metropolis, using their keyboard to maneuver the Man of Steel around obstacles and destroy objects with heat-vision. Players must collect Superman logos to increase their score while dodging floating laser beams, plasma weapons from dropships and guided rockets shot from helicopters. Get hit five times, and Supes is a goner." It even features a new sampling of Hans Zimmer's movie soundtrack!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman

It would be incredibly difficult in my opinion for a good, console Superman game. This tie in online game is pretty much like what Sony had for, The Amazing Spider-Man. I really enjoyed that. I'm gonna check this one out.

@Malcopunch Yea Batman Begins had a PS2 game. Nothing worth checking out.

There was a TDK game in the making, but it was eventually canceled.

Only TDKR game is the mobile game for iPad.

Flying through rings and shooting obstacles...yeah, that worked out FANTASTIC for Superman the first time they gave him a video game like that.

Rbfn04: I'm just guessing cause I really don't know a whole lot about Superman but, I do know the basics and his villains. Just finding the balance between his powers In the gameplay, finding the right story and giving challenging boss fights just sounds like it would be much more complicated than someone like Spider-Man, Batman, ect.

Such a shame that they can't make a good superman game. I understand why they can't In the sense that superman is invincible but so many games now rely on a moral compass rather than a simple due and restart system that you could so easily base a superman game around that premise. There are loads of games where anyone can finish them but it's the journey that counts and I think if they got this in there heads we could finally have a decent superman game that really pushed moralistic barriers. I.e. saving people in the street. The longer it takes you to get there the more lives are sacrificed and eventually it ways do greatly on superman that he becomes weaker or if there desperate they could do a storyline based game where the sun is for some reason blocked etc and superman becomes weaker because of it. I'm not sure exactly but there has to be a way!!!

@Crossbones just off the top of my head: Lobo, Mongul, Hank Hanshaw, Parasite, Brainiac, Darkside

@chrisymyers invincible? There are tons of more powerful beings in the DCU. You can also start with him not being exposed to sunlight - for whatever reason - and have him slowly regain powers (kinda like Batman buying gadgets in Arkham City)

A decent Superman game could be do-able. You need the obvious powers of flight, super strength, heat vision, frost breath, and x-ray vision. A lot of hero games suffer from poor script or poor/limited mechanics of using the powers.
Look at past superhero games.. some were decent and playable but nothing special. Batman was essentially a walk-thru of the movie. Iron Man has crappy controls. Green Lantern game like movie had bad script and limited use of powers. Spidey games were hit or miss depending on which game.
Anyone who played either Superman N-64 or the sad excuse for an Aquaman game.. needs to have the MIB mind eraser used on them!

Boss battles for Supes.. Metallo, Brainiac, Parasite, Solomon Grundy, Cyborg Superman, Doomsday, Bizarro, Eradicator, Lex, Zod! He has a decent rogue gallery to make a game.
Again it falls to script/storyline!

batman begins was a decent game ... the best batman game before AA came out .... and AA took alot of features from that game truth be told ... EVERYSINGLE SUPERMAN GAME TO DATE HAS BLOWN CHUNKS....
i dont know how you could make a great superman game unless you had it to where you started off as clark kent @ 18 years old with no powers only the fact you cant get hurt and every mission (level) would fast foward you about a month and they would feature smaller villians like toy man,etc and after every level you would gain a new power and after say 10th mission you would unlock flight, and your superman suit and have 10 more mission has a full on superman and after every mission it would just increase your levels and at the end you would fight doomsday and you should die and thats where the game should end ...

People so easily forget how many Batman games had been sheer and utter crap. At best, before the Arkham series, Batman games had largely been mediocre.

Get the right writers, developers and artistic designers, and you could have the greatest CMB video game in history.

Could you guys imagine having an all-out brawl with characters like Mongul on a story based on Superman being held captive on War World? That'd be insane!

Or a story arc similar to Legacy, where Superman was brainwashed into Darkseid's second in command? Could you imagine part of the arc where you're actually leading conquests on alien worlds, then after recovering on Earth, taking the fight to Darkseid on Apokolips? That'd be incredible!
