What We Would Have Seen If Superman Returns Had Gotten A Sequel!

Michael Dougherty has revealed some of the things we might have seen in a sequel to the 2006 Bryan Singer directed movie and they include Kryptonians and perhaps even Brainiac...

Moviehole has an interesting interview with the screenwriter of Superman Returns where he reveals the following:

Promising first and foremost that the sequel would have been action heavy, Dougherty explained that it would have revolved around a group of Kryptonians who come to Earth and, while they wouldn't have been outright evil a la General Zod, they would have challenged Superman's views of his role on Earth.

Despite the promise of action, that sounds like another boring movie too busy trying to make a point instead of giving fans a faithful, and exciting, adaptation of one of the most iconic superheroes ever created to me! However, in a surprising twist it seems that a classic Superman villain might have had a role:

"Brainiac was always interesting."

As for what he thinks the chances of seeing Brandon Routh reprise the role of the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot are, here's what he had to say:

"I’m sure they’ll talk...at least I’d like to think so!"

Would you have liked to see this sequel to Superman Returns make it's way to the big screen? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Maybe they should have thought of making sure the first one was good before fricking up another one.

Oh, God. So in other words Singer and Co. had no new ideas whatsoever. First film (SR) Lex Luthor land grab. Second film rogue Kyrptonians. "Evil" or not its still a basic rehash of Superman 2. What was he thiking? Just because it has been 25 years since we've seen it doesn't mean we haven't seen it before. I dread Singer's involvement again with the X franchise. I think its time for him to take a bow and just leave the genre be.

I never get this whole reboot phenomenon...The Batman franchise is understandable because you just can't follow a cartoony movie (B&R)with something as dark and gritty as (BB). There was no way to keep such continuity.
Also with TIH. Hulk was a flop, (even though it was OK)but the reboot TIH was necessary as Marvel got back the character rights, and the movie is part that sets up an entire universe)
Apart from that, why don't these franchises just continue with a better sequel. As far as Marvel characters, follow Spider-man 3 with a good Spider-man 4. Same with Daredevil and others. The only reboot I would be interested in is if Marvel got back the rights to these other characters so they can all be included in their cinematic universe.
So FOX is rebooting FF & Sony Spidey. BIG DEAL! They'll still never treat the characters the way Marvel/ Disney will

It still wouldn't have been a good sequel.

Nice find Josh! Still glad it was never made though! Singer said not too long after Returns that his sequel would be what Wrath of Khan was to the Star Trek movies - more action!!!

Very well said NERO! I'm 100% sure that we can blame Singer for this idiotic storyline/setting that we're getting in X-Men: First Class! I hate that mother[frick]er for what he's done to both them and Superman. Thank God for Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder!!!

As for, "What We Would Have Seen If Superman Returns Had Gotten A Sequel," I might have well have saved some time and written...

ANOTHER SHIT MOVIE!

So in other words, as bad as we think the WB execs are, they do show they have some integrity left. Thank you WB for not dragging Superman down any further than you already allowed to happen. I feel a little bad for Routh, because you know he is just sitting there by the phone waiting for the call. Maybe he needs to get involved with some local theater to keep those world class acting "skills" of his honed, so he can be ready for the call back to the big leagues one day, haha.

Personally, i don't know what he's on about. I read Singer's "Man Of Steel" script online and it had nothing to do with Kryptonians or Brainiac. It was all about Metallo. And although there was more action in it than Returns, it was still a lackluster film. Having Superman loosing his powers to Kryptonite poisoning for the better part of the film. It sucked ass. Of course, there's always the matter of if the script i read was the actual script and not a fraud. But it seemed to co-incide with Singer's thoughts on a sequel to Returns would have been which wouldn't have mentionned the kid at all and would have been more action focused if i remember correctly... i'm still not sure when and where i had read about that though.

whew, dodged that bullet; of course, I knew this would happen. that movie would also have had a scene with Superman in child-support court! Lois would be screaming, "I want arrears b!tc#"

Snyder should not use Routh; I liked him as Superman too, but he's connected with the last movie. Too much baggage, it would interfere with the 'suspension of disbelief' that movies try to achieve.

PISH .....If thats what Singer wanted to do Hell no!

I wanted to see Braniac Come in and make the Whole kid thing just an illusion to weaken Superman, Superbaby! Is Bull Crap!

It also would have been nice to have seen Superman Raise his Fist to someone.

but Even in the Comic books I hated it when the Kryptonians came to Earth, Its what Ruined Lois and Clark the New Adventures of Superman.

The Point of The Son Of Krypton is to have him INDEED be the Last Survivor of Krypton Other than the Ones held up in the Phantom Zone or His Cousin getting thrown off coarsse on her way to earth!

SUCK MY AZZ SINGER!

Instead of asking this guy the questions they did, he should have just been immediatly set on fire. He pushed Superman on the big screen back several years. Whoever greenlit SR should also be done away with. What the hell were they thinking.......*cries*

the storyline of Superman having a child was set up in Superman 2 anyway, was wrong then even more wrong in SR, the whole idea of SR was to bring Superman back from his exploration and start with a new villain, they failed totally, don't get me wrong, I like Superman in any form but this should have been handled in an animated story arc, possibly setting up a new thread of Superboy stories, but not on the Big Screen, just a let down in the continuity that is Superman

Thank God they are rebooting it returns sucked balls and another Routh Superman movie would have been terrible along with Singer's stupid ideas and vision. Next he would've put in krypto and had Superman throw a plastic s off his chest.
So glad Nolan is heading this up and I pray that there is no Routhboot cause that guy sucks at life in general!

I wanted a sequel for SR for years. I wanted Bizzaro or Metallo to fight, Superman gets revenge on Lex Luthor and his crystals back(wearing the Black outfit from Smallville), and take his son flying for the first time.

What's the point of having action if Superman is immortal. If they reboot, Kryptonite (most likely) will kill him, in Superman Returns it was more of a minor inconvenience.

I would not get near this. SR was worse than catwoman and daredevil put together. To top that, no gay Brandon Routh around it either yuuuuck.

Brandon Routh? I say nay. He already said he like to have diks in his mouth. That is no supes.

[frick] Singer and [frick] Routh.

I dread the very idea of Routh even being considered. He's got too much singer/returns baggage. Everything from Returns must be thrown out the window for GOOD- including their lead star- Brandon Routh.

Time to start over fresh.

HAMMBOOT!

@Solidsnake007- I agree with you. Routh was an "ok" Reeve-imersonator. But he WAS NOT good as Superman at all. Lacked charisma and dialogue. He sucked monkey balls.

Singer needs to [frick]en die for what he did to Superman.
