Zack Snyder's Man of Steel to begin filming next week?!! AND Goyer STILL involved?!!

Follow the jump to see an update from Mr. Goyer himself!

Initially the rumors were that Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot would begin filming in late August. Looks like they may be moving along a bit quicker than we originally thought! Looks like instead they will begin shooting in late July instead! And...to top it off- Goyer isn't completely off the MOS-bandwagon just yet!! Read on...

"One of Hollywood’s most esteemed fanboys won’t be attending Comic-Con 2011 this week. But David S. Goyer says he has a good excuse: He’ll be working on director Zack Snyder’s forthcoming Superman relaunch starring Henry Cavill — the superhero opus most likely to be the biggest story of next year’s Comic-Con. “It would the height of irresponsibility to break away at this point to go to Comic-Con,” the Man of Steel screenwriter (also a key member on Christopher Nolan’s Batman team) told EW in an interview last week. (The film, slated for release next year, begins shooting next week.)"

As for any other pertinent information on 'Man of Steel' Goyer wouldn't share anything more...read on...

(I know better than try to squeeze you for details about Man of Steel)–

"You won’t get anything from me, other than to say that it’s been a really, really fun experience"

"Man of Steel" is due to fly into theaters for a Holiday 2012 release!

I'm hoping this isn't something that's already been posted or is old news. If it is, please let me know and right away I'll remove this article. I rather spare myself the embarrassment of being too far behind in the 'news' since I haven't been on this site for a while.

@nailbiter111- Thanks man! Not sure again if this is old or not. It could be though. I couldn't find this posted anywhere else on CBM but I could be wrong.

;D

But I hope this is right, IF the film begins shooting earlier than originally stated...then it means that all the rumors of "messes" with scripts and stuff could be incorrect and we could be seeing the film getting out sooner than expected or right on time! Either way it's cool.

@ClarkKent1985- Don't worry man, once they stop keeping us in the dark, maybe...MAYBE we can all start feeling empowered once again about this movie. I don't know, but I have faith this will be the best CBM of 2012.

But I'm seriously Superman-biased so...yeah...lol.

But yeah, I guess this news isn't old then. Cool. Thanks for the comments guys!

feels right to me. the cast is great. i have a really good feeling about this

This is also cool because at least we know that Goyer isn't going to completely abandon MOS. He's gonna stick around for it.

So possibly both Kurt Johnstad AND David Goyer looking over the script makes the film seem more and more likely to be successful. WB seems to be taking baby-steps with this film which is good...they're being very careful not to mess it up.

@KALel3412- Yeah, the cast is filled with all A-list stars and academy award winners. I don't know what else could go wrong. With Snyder doing visuals and Goyer + Johnstad both working on the script, I think this film has a good chance of being the #1 film of 2012!

WHERE'S THE SUIT?!?!?!?!?!? Didn't he say that they would release pics of the suit or designs of it before they begin shooting?

LP4 - 7/19/2011, 8:53 PM
@JDUKE- Yeah man but this is good news here too. I mean, at least we now know that Goyer isn't completely gone from MOS! That is wonderful and the film will begin shooting sooner than expected this means we could be seeing the suit maybe this coming week!

@LP4 I hope so man. And I hope Cavill is in shape too

LP4 - 7/19/2011, 9:00 PM
@JDUKE- I understand the frustration dude, trust me i do man. Don't worry though. Cavill will be so buffed he'll be able to flick away all the upcoming 2012 superheroes.

Last we saw pictures of him, he was already really buff. He looked about buffer than Evans...and much buffer than Christian Bale was in 'Batman Begins'

So with all the extra time he had to work out and fight-train...no doubt in my mind he'll be really buff and in total Superman-shape to kick some serious ASS in "Man of Steel"

=D

Can't wait to see this movie next year. Seeing the great writing from Goyer to be transplanted on screen will be worth paying every cent to see this movie. Also seeing Superman fight is something everyone wants to see.

T4P!

I've also got amazingly good vibes about this movie. Everything just seems so perfect to me now. The cast is flawless, couldn't ask for better. Cavill as Supes, Adams as Lois, Lane and Costner as the Kents and Russell motha-[frick]ing Crowe as JOR-EL?! It's insane how good the cast is. My friends agree and I think the critics and public will agree as well. Synder's going to make sure we have some fantastic visuals, he's great with bringing comics to life. The only thing I'm not sure about is the script but I'm optimistic that it's in good hands.

I reeeaaalllyyy want this movie to kick ass. It doesn't have to be the best CBM of the year nor the highest grossing but it has to be amazing. Probably my most anticipated, just slightly above The Avengers for me.

man of steel is my second most anticipated CBM of 2012 only behind the dark knight rises .

@GDSUPERGUY- Well, earlier rumors were that Goyer ditched it for Godzilla. This report proves that he is still involved in the scripting process AND it confirms that the film will begin shooting a month earlier than expected. I'd still say my article is a pretty damn good find.

@everyone else- Yep this film is GOING TO SERIOUSLY OWN!!!

@DGTZ- Thanks bud! ;D

@GDSUPERGUY- Y'know what the weirdest thing of all is?

I posted a Smallville article one time and somehow THAT got on the MAIN page. But this is actual NEWS and pretty darn good news at that! But somehow it doesn't make MAIN.

I don't get who decides what gets on MAIN and what doesn't. lol

Ask any of my friends, when they shout "The Dark Knight Rises!" or "The Avengers!" or "The Amazing Spider-Man!" I'm always the one shouting "MAN OF STEEL!" Most anticipated movie of 2012 (Right next to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Dark Knight Rises. I think I'm one of the few on this site that couldn't really care less if The Avengers is good or not. It's exciting it's actually happening, but beyond that, meh)

This is a great find, LP4. Johnstad is a GREAT action writer and Goyer is a great thriller writer (well, at least, he's good at coming up with thriller stories that people later script).

And Snyder's visual talent (Plus awesome slow motion - hopefully he puts it in there)....

Man Of Steel will be the best.

EarOne
EarOne - 7/20/2011, 10:24 AM
despite my problems with some of the casting choices (the woman parts, mainly)...i gotta say, the fact that both Chris Nolan and Dave Goyer are not behind this project, but STARTED it all, BEFORE Snyder was even considered as the director, gives me full confidence that the film's most certainly going to be something we, fans, have been WAITING for all these years.

must say that the bitter taste SR left is still there...i hope this movie'll finally get rid of it FOR GOOD.

ps: i still wanna see Joan Allen as Ma Kent and someone else (younger) as Lois Lane.

Nice find LP4@

Maybe starting to do some filming at this point means that there is a alot of CGI.
Could this mean that perhaps they are doing some test screenings just to see how things (like the costume) look on screen etc

@MegaMattMOS- You are not alone my friend. I too could care LESS if the Avengers are great as a film or not. I was never a real fan of theirs.

So to me it doesn't matter either which way.

"Man of Steel" is unique compared to those other 3 biggies of 2012 for a very good reason.

Dark Knight Rises will be exciting and thrilling (after Superman I am def a big Batman-fan) but it's the end of a trilogy and we've had so much of Nolan's Batman that it's still fresh from 2008.

Avengers isn't all that thrilling because we already had individual films for each them. Yeah i get this will be their first-ever team-up but still...snoooooore

Amazing Spider-Man will be cool and I'm sure to love the film (after Superman and Batman, Spidey is my #3 hero)

But we just came off from all the Tobey films- an entire trilogy.

So another Spider-Man flick seems...meh at this point.

But the thing with Man of Steel is- Aside from Superman Returns, we haven't had a Superman film for the past 20 or so years and many on this site weren't even born when the Reeve stuff was in theaters. And of course Superman Returns def was NOT the Superman film fans have waited 20 years for, yeah maybe it was for some...but generally speaking it was a major let-down. My point is- Batman already had 2 really good recent films- begins and tdk, spidey already had 2 really good recent films- spidey 1 and 2. Avengers had their individual good films- IM and Thor and soon Cap.

MOS will be something though that is completely different and new for a NEW generation of fans. I think that's what makes this project so exotic compared to the other 3 well that and the fact that they got both Chris Nolan AND Zack Snyder to team up for it, just makes it THAT much cooler!

Oh and thanks for the kudos MegaMattMOS!

I mean, since the movie will be released in 3D, they could be doing tests with green screen to see how the costume is working.
Also, I remember reading (more than a week ago) that Russel Crowe had been apparently spotted some somewhere near Plano (or near there), so maybe they are really begining to film next week.
