According to Deadline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will finish in first place this holiday weekend, with an estimated $26M. The film is in its second weekend and down 60% from last week. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy keeps chugging along, with $23M. That's good enough for second, though observers believe there is a chance the film could close that gap based on Saturday's figures. Expendables 3 is underperforming. It'll finish in third with a $16M debut weekend. That's off by 54% from the first Expendables and 40% off from Expendables 2. Also of note: Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes should cross over the $200M ($201.9M) domestic mark this weekend, despite not finishing in the top ten.

Seriously? Why are people still watching this garbage? I thought for sure that one of those three movies opening this weekend would take the top spot

Stallone and company got curb-stomped by Ninja Turtles and GOTG? Good! I'm still waiting for the Step-Up/Expendables crossover.

@kevberg There's also the fact that no one cares about the franchise and that the film isn't very good.

[frick] TMNT. Shit movie. Seriously.

GotG is so, so good. Wish the sequel would be out in 2016.

But look at my screen name.

TMNT Was a cool movie. The Turtles were great, it was genuinely funny and had a lot of heart. Even Megan was surprisingly good. The only thing I can say bad about it is some of the mid-level CGI. For the sequel, their going to have to step up the CGI. Splinter looked [frick]ing awful.

Awwwww yeah! Movie could've done Shredder more justice and Splinter looked off, but movie was fun as hell.

I thought Turtles was pretty terrible hollywood trash compared to Guardians.

TMNT took itself not only waay to seriously, but the jokes were kind of lazy and derivative where as the jokes in GOTG felt like they were free to express themselves.

The tone TMNT should've went for is what GOTG had. At the end of the day TMNT is kind of a parody that got lucky, I'm wondering why don't we treat it like so.

The TMNT I wanna watch looks and feels like a Kung-Fu rip off. Not just easily calculate hollywood trash.

By the way, you guys who love TMNT but hate TASM? Yeah, TMNT stole its whole script from TASM 1 and maybe some of 2.

GOTG had no competition it's first week. It has since repeatedly got beat out by a bad movie. TMNT is competing against GOTG, where as their box office numbers got a head start with fluff competition ... and international markets. Which Ninja Turtles hasn't released in yet. Disney Studios hypebeasts are annoying. GOTG was average at best.

that awkward moment when a crappy movie beats a really good film and you start to wonder, is the crappy movie really good or is the good movie just crap.

People who shit all over "overrated" films and rely on box office rankings to feel better about their bad taste in movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy had good main characters, but the other characters were bad and it had way too much humor. 8/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had good turtle character and action, but nothing else. 7/10
Expendables 3 just suck

Turtles sucked. Megan was absolutely horrible as April and the whole damn film was centered around how hot she was. Seriously, that should have been the synopsis: Four mutant turtles and a reporter get the hots for another reporter, while a mech suit tries to kill them.

The only good thing about it was that elevator scene.

Good numbers for GOTG if they hold it will be the highest domestic box office for 2014 and surpass Cap 2's numbers, if it holds. Although I think Hunger Games: Mockingjay will ultimately be the highest grosser this year domestically. Marvel/Disney are very pleased.

when the BO numbers are great, critics and general audiences are on your side, and its a fan-favorite blockbuster, all because the movie is actually [frick]ING!! Great, that feeling is soooo good. Quality and $$$, who said it can't go together? ;)

You guys are blowing GotG WAY out of proportion. I liked it, but if that is your benchmark for 9/10, 10/10, best movie of the summer/year, you've got limited/bad taste.

"The Rover" was the best movie of the year, this far. The true start to oscar season.

@ FaptainMerica

How is it kicking its ass. GOTG is on its third week and is nearly tied with TMNT which was on its second week. GOTG opened to over 95 mil and TMNT opened to 65 mil. GOTG is racking in more cash domestically and internationally. GOTG dropped around 50% is second week and TMNT dropped by 60%. The movie isn't performing as well as GOTG and its suppose to be an established franchise with nostalgia attached.
