After some promising news about the live-action adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin thanks to co-creator Kevin Eastman earlier this week, Variety had just reported that the sequel to the critically acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will now be deliviering into theaters on friday August 13, 2027. Moving up a month from its second release date of September 17 2027.

Details for the film are currently undisclosed at the moment, but the sequel to Mutant Mayhem will feature the long-awaited debut of the Shredder. Producer/co-writer and the voice of Bebop, Seth Rogen had revealed in 2024 on the film's status that the entire project was fully storyboarded with a finished animatic and the final title.

There is a title, and it’s awesome, but I don’t think I can say it.  But when it came up on the screen, I stood up and cheered. There’s an animatic — there’s a storyboarded version of the whole movie, so they’re working on it right now.

However the sequel was pushed back to a 2027 release date due to production diffculties in May 2025. As reported by Animation Magazine, the reasoning for the move was "unspecified delays in physical animation production". The original release date was then later occupied by The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. A feature-length animated film based on Avatar: The Last Airbender that serves as a continuation of the beloved Nicktoon.

Jeff Rowe (The Mitchells vs. the Machines) returns as director from the first film alongside with Kyler Spears as co-director and Yashar Kassai joining on to the co-director's chair with Spears. In addtion to Seth Rogen, co-writer and producer Evan Goldberg reprises his duties for the sequel, with James Weaver and Josh Fagen and from Point Grey overseeing the production and Ramsay McBean from Paramount Animation.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is the second theatrical animated film based on the beloved characters created by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird after TMNT 2007 from Warner Bros. Pictures, prior to Paramount's acquisition of the property in 2009. The film centers around the four turtle brothers (Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael & Michelangelo) seeking acceptance in the world while facing a criminal mastermind under the name of Superfly. In a first for Turtles history, the quartet are voiced by teenagers per the behest of Seth Rogen as part of a goal to hone in into the teenage element.

The film stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon as the Turtles. The rest of the cast includes Jackie Chan as Splinter, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.
