Paramount's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM Added Another $13.2 Million This Past Weekend

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem earned $26.49 million in its second weekend, bringing its then total to $94.69 million, as of August 13. This comes after the film's opening weekend, saw the Jeff Rowe-directed animated pic gross $43 million domestically and $8 million internationally for a $51 million worldwide debut.

The movie recently completed its third weekend of distribution and earned an additional $8.5 million domestically and $4.7 million abroad, bringing its overall gross to $118.54 million. The movie only made a total of $23.85 million in its third complete week of distribution.

With a rumored $70 million production budget, the movie still has a long way to go if it hopes to break even after accounting for marketing expenses and revenue splits with cinemas.

To recap, the first weekend saw Mutant Mayhem gross $51 million worldwide, followed by $26.5 million over its second weekend of release and then $13.2 million this past weekend.

The film still has to open in several international territories, including Spain (Aug. 25), Brazil (Aug. 31), Italy (Aug. 31),  Australia (Sept. 7), and Japan (Sept. 22). There's a small chance that these international territories may provide a significant box office boost.

As previously covered, there are not many family-friendly movie options for the next few weeks and audiences don't appear to be all that interested in Warner Bros.' Blue Beetle.

The next family-friendly film won't arrive until  PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie hits cinemas on September 29, so there's room for Mutant Mayhem to stretch its legs at the box office.

Mutant Mayhem

The film stars Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo), Sharon Brown Jr. (Mikey), Micah Abbey (Donnie), Brady Noon (Raph), Jackie Chan (Splinter), Ayo Edebiri (April), Ice Cube (Superfly), Seth Rogen (Bebop), John Cena (Rocksteady), Paul Rudd (Mondo Gecko), Rose Byrne (Leatherhead), Post Malone (Ray Fillet), Hannibal Buress (Genghis Frog), Natasia Demetriou (Wing Nut), Maya Rudolph (Cynthia Utrom), and Giancarlo Esposito (Baxter Stockman)!

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O'Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

Next time they gotta find a way to make the movie open in all markets instead of having it wait almost a month for those listed countries to finally debut the film. I wanna see more where these Turtles go and I'm looking forward to the in-between sequel TV series.

Personally, I would love to see an R rated TMNT movie. Will probably never happen, but one can dream.

@TiberiousOmega - You might have to wait for TMNT: The Last Ronin game for an R-Rated experince.

Just saw it tonight.

Thought the animation, tone, voice acting and direction were all great. The family dynamic felt genuine, and it was funny too.

Didn’t really have an issue with the change to Splinter’s origin. Him being the pet of a samurai master is still cooler but, oh well. Its still Splinter training teenage mutant turtles to be ninjas in the sewers of NYC and they’re obsessed with pizza.

I loved the movie, but the ending kind of killed any excitement i’d have in a sequel. Something about them being public figures going to high school just kinda feels weird and a little too drastic of a status quo change. Them living in the shadows as badass ninja vigilantes but still being goofballs was always what interested me about the characters.

Didn’t really care for all the other mutants surviving and then living happily together in the sewer either. Although the gecko one was great.

I didn't expect to love the movie as much as i did.
It's so heart-warming and fun, despite the changes which i mostly found inferior to canon/older versions.
I wish i had seen it in 3D, but i didn't realise that was an option until it was too late.
It is already in it's last week here in my city in Germany and is not playing in 3D anymore.

Go and watch it, it will bring a smile to your face!
