Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem by Paramount and Nickelodeon continued its strong box office performance in its second weekend of release.

The animated film directed by Jeff Rowe (The Mitchells vs. the Machines) made $15.75 million domestically and another $10.74 million worldwide for a total of $26.49 million in its second weekend.

As of Sunday, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has a global total of $94.69 million, with Paramount spending only $70 million on the film's production costs. It should surpass the $100 million mark by the end of Monday.

The film's box office haul won't be able to rely on China, as Mutant Mayhem bombed, bringing in under $1 million despite the Chinese action star Jackie Chan lending his voice talents. In recent years. China's box office dollars have become increasingly more important to a film's commercial success as it plays yo-yo with North America which region is the largest movie market.

On the domestic family film front, Mutant Mayhem will not face much competition over the next few weeks aside from Pixar's Elemental, which continues to perform well despite a rough start, and Warner Bros.' Blue Beetle (August 18).

The first major test will not occur until September 29, when PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is released. Mutant Mayhem should have a good box office run through the end of the summer, maximizing the few weeks of break before kids return to school following the Labor Day holiday.

Mutant Mayhem

The film stars Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo), Sharon Brown Jr. (Mikey), Micah Abbey (Donnie), Brady Noon (Raph), Jackie Chan (Splinter), Ayo Edebiri (April), Ice Cube (Superfly), Seth Rogen (Bebop), John Cena (Rocksteady), Paul Rudd (Mondo Gecko), Rose Byrne (Leatherhead), Post Malone (Ray Fillet), Hannibal Buress (Genghis Frog), Natasia Demetriou (Wing Nut), Maya Rudolph (Cynthia Utrom), and Giancarlo Esposito (Baxter Stockman)!

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

@Ironman616 -

After 10 days, surpassed its budget at domestic box office, with 72 mil total.

Globally its at 92 million and has no foreseeable competition until end of september.

… ready to admit you were wrong yet? Lmao.

@ReverseFlasher - When it passes $250 and breaks even I will. Until then, it hasn't made it's money back. Don't believe me, look at the Flash and it's production budget vs how much it's made.

@IronMan616 - lmao 180 mill on marketing and promo?! Still not living in reality clearly.

@ReverseFlasher - fyi, movies only get a percentage of the BO. Typically around 60-70% domestically and much, much lower internationally.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 8/14/2023, 6:53 PM
@ReverseFlasher - you really think studios pocket the entire amount it makes at the box office especially over seas? Name me one movie that opened up fourth place and was considered a hit.

Stop sounding like an emotional little kid, you got your movie, may get sequels and tv shows based on merchandise sales, nobody will watch them, but at least you, the ones they're making these awful movies, for will.

ReverseFlasher - 8/14/2023, 8:05 PM
@Itwasme - actually the way it typically works is studios get 100 percent of week one, and less each week after. So thus far theyd actually be keeping the vast, vast majority of the domestic cume.

Either way no one uses this math when deciding if a movie is successful. Idk if youre attempting to backup ironman, but you shouldnt lol.

Still needs about $150 million more to break even.
SATW42
SATW42 - 8/14/2023, 5:02 PM
@IronMan616 - where do you get these numbers from. It's budget was $70 million. Most industry analysts say break even is $175 million. It's already passed $100 by most accounts I've read.

So it needs to make another $75 million to break even with it still not even being released in other terriorites yet. Even if you want to be really pessimistic and say it need $100 million to break even, it's going to.
ReverseFlasher
ReverseFlasher - 8/14/2023, 5:59 PM
@SATW42 - dont try logic with this one, he or she is clearly against the film for some reason, been calling it a bomb since before it even came out, and obviously trolling hard at this point… it surpassed its budget in 10 days at only the domestic BO… its clearly a win lol
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 8/14/2023, 6:47 PM
@SATW42 - the 2.5 multiplier, it needs $250 to break even.
SATW42
SATW42 - 8/15/2023, 7:28 AM
@IronMan616 - I’m pretty sure that formula means 175, not that you ADD 175 to the 70

@IronMan616 - so the movie isn't a failure, it did what paramount wanted it to do.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 8/15/2023, 10:48 AM
@SATW42 - lol. Sell toys and not movie tickets? OK whatever you say.

@IronMan616 - Make money.
SATW42
SATW42 - 8/15/2023, 10:56 AM
@IronMan616 - You're also acting like this is a new idea. Transformers, G.I.Joe, Thundercats, He-Man, they were all just toy commercials. They don't even hide this, they have openly admitted it in documentaries like the Toys that Made us.

This is why George Lucas bargained for full merchandising rights over star wars before the movie even came out. He knew where the real money was. $100 million dollars worth of toys between 1977 and 78. The billions of dollars george Lucas has is from merchandising, not the movies.

You're showing how little you know.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 8/15/2023, 11:45 AM
@SATW42 - Those were all cartoons that were watched Saturday mornings. You know what other garbage movies were made to sell toys with no plot, or show a decent movie, Batman and Robin, Godzilla '98, the Bayformers movies, plus I'm sure there are many more out there.

(although the Bayformers did make money)
SATW42
SATW42 - 8/15/2023, 1:01 PM
@IronMan616 - But turtle mayhem has good critical reviews and audience scores. and it's selling merch. It is successful. I don't know why this is a hill you are choosing to die on when all the facts point to it doing exactly what paramount wants. Thats why they greenlit 2 seasons of the tv show and a sequel movie before the movie even came out. Because the success of the movie didn't matter, they already made a billion dollars off the IP in merchandising deals

Whether you think thats right or not, or want to argue the artistic merit in that, that's fine, but the movie has done EXACTLY what Paramount wanted.
SATW42
SATW42 - 8/15/2023, 1:12 PM
@IronMan616 - also, just for funsies, Godzilla 98 at the time was perceived as a flop, but by today's standards it would be considered successful.

Over 6 days Godzilla made $74 million dollars, in 1998 money. Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning made $80 million in TODAY dollars.

Also, Godzilla 98 had a worldwide Box Office of $379 million

It had a budget on the high end believed to be $150 million dollars and reported marketing costs of 80 million dollars. Thats $230 million dollars if you don't want to do the math. It actually made the studio money.

To compare it to another version of Batman. Godzilla 98 actually did better numbers than Batman Begins, 375 against a 150 budget. Warner Bros. made the Dark Knight after that.

You just have no idea what studios actually want. Or you do and don't agree with it so you try to paint it as a failure but it's only a failure by your own made up metrics and not what they want.

They need to hit $200 million to break even and they'll get there. As I said, there's not much competition for Mutant Mayhem for the next several weeks.
