Yesterday, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Twitter account celebrated Father's Day by debuting the first clip from the upcoming animated reboot.

In an extended scene from the recent second trailer, the Heroes in a Half-Shell get a text from Splinter, who doesn't seem too happy with his sons. Donatello then tells April O'Neil that their father is "definitely not a giant rat," which only makes the reporter pretty certain that their father is, in fact, a giant rat!

We then see the Turtles' incredibly skilled sensei in action. In a genius bit of casting, Splinter will be voiced by the legendary Jackie Chan.

Paramount recently screened an unfinished cut of Mutant Mayhem at the Annecy Animation Festival, and the first reactions were very positive (more here).

“After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.”

Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon will voice the roles of Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael, respectively. The cast also includes Jackie Chan as Splinter, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.

Jeff Rowe (The Mitchells vs. the Machines) directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

@bobevanz - also this movie looks great. Cue the neckbeards complaint about April. She looks closer to the comic counterpart than she EVER did

@bobevanz - April in the original comics was basically a magic doodle

@bobevanz - Nobody wants to talk about The Little Mermaid flopping because then they’d have to address the reality that most of Asia is racist against black people.

@bobevanz - Or they may want comic book accuracy.

@mountainman - You could tell from the start this was going to flop, Snow White will be next.

@marvel72 - Snow White flopping won’t be as big of a deal as Little Mermaid flopping.

The Little Mermaid was the first of the Disney antimatter renaissance movies. Generally there are four of them that most people agree make up that renaissance in the late 80’s and early 90’s - Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Some may want to include other 90’s ones like Hercules, Tarzan, or Hunchback, but I’d argue those were never as popular as the four I listed.

Of those four, Little Mermaid is going to top out about $500 million while the other three live action versions were all over 1 billion.

This isn’t Cruella, Malificent or Dumbo we are talking about here. It’s the little freaking mermaid. Ariel is one of the most popular characters for little girls worldwide. Songs like “part of your world” and “under the sea” are cultural juggernauts.

Snow White may underperform. But that won’t be nearly as big of a blow to Disney as one of their most popular movies/characters ever barely breaking even at the box office.

@bobevanz - LOL. Are you [frick]ing high?

When was April ever a fat, nerdy black girl?

April was ALWAYS a sexy, big-boobed brunette or redhead till Nickelodeon decided a couple of years ago with the "Rise of the TMNT" that gingers weren't cool anymore so they made her a black chick and now they've done it again only she has a weight problem this time.

This movie looks like a lot of fun. I hope it’s a hit and spawns a new generation of TMNT films.

However, I won’t believe it’s good until Tom Cruise, Stephen King, and the executives behind it tell me it’s the greatest piece of cinema ever produced.

@massdeath - And the Magic 8-Ball. Once we get a "It is certain" response from the Magic 8-Ball to the question of "Is TMNT a great movie?" (along with Cruise, King, and the Execs) then we're golden. No doubt in my mind. I just came out of an alcohol-induced coma over the weekend so I haven't had time to check the numbers, but I'm assuming that this all worked for "The Flash" and that it was, in fact, the greatest superhero movie of all time.

Splinter looks ugly AF.

Donatello's little kid voice doesn't do it for me.

A lot of the designs don't do it for me either.

It'll probably be a wait to streamer or on some cable network for me... and this speaking as a big TMNT fan.

I just think outside of the 2012 show, Nickelodeon needs to hit the brakes on the turtles for awhile.

I would've preferred a new, grittier PG-13 live-action film akin to the 90s movie, but nope... got to sell more toys and merchandise and kiddie-up the TMNT some more.
