Stephen Norrington is set to direct the newest take on The Crow, created by James O'Barr in the 1980s as a self-published comic. The comic itself was originally written as a means of coping with the loss of his girlfriend to a drunk driver. It has spawned four movies, a brief-lived TV series and more comics.
Norrington told Variety in December 2008:
"Whereas [director Alex] Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style."
Norrignton recently told Mania that he would like to start shooting The Crow in the summer, but that it may have to take a back seat to the supernatural WWII film that he will direct.
He said that The Crow is moving towards a green light from the studio, saying that the producer and visual effects crew are working out the details, adding up the costs to get a realistic budget. The movie has a completed script, and Norrington said he hopes to start shooting in the summer.
