If you watch The Flash, which most of you who read this probably do, then you have probably, at least once, asked this question: “Who the %#$@ is Harrison Wells?!” And you’re not alone, my confused compadres. All the fans of the show ask this question. So, let us-and by “us” I mean me-discuss the topic.
Could he be Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom?
This seems to be the obvious, go-to character that he could be. I mean, he seems to be from the future, or at least have knowledge of the future, which Eobard certainly did, him being a 25th century time traveler and all. And, as we saw in the midseason finale, he has the yellow suit that the Reverse Flash wore. And also talks in the voice that the Reverse Flash spoke in. And also has the Tachyon particle machine that the Reverse Flash stole. So it seems really obvious that the man in the yellow suit is Harrison Wells. But is he Eobard Thawne, great great great (a bunch of other greats) grandson of the show’s Eddie Thawne? My guess? Yes, he is. But I’m often wrong, so we’ll see. But there is a lot of evidence that points to my theory being right (suck it). Also, Harrison Wells has the initials and last name of H.G. Wells, who wrote “The Time Machine”. That’s something to consider. Or maybe it’s a red herring. I guess we’ll find out at some point in time.
Could he be Hunter Zoloman/Zoom?
This theory would be my second favorite theory. There is some subtle evidence to support it, too. Zoloman, in the comics, does not use the Speed Force to run fast. He is just disconnected from the fabric of time itself, so he can move along in time as fast or slow as he wants, if that makes any sense (it probably doesn’t). This would account for Wells not really being able to use the Speed Force as Barry does, as we see Wells needs to get Barry’s powers or the Tachyon particles for speed. Also, we see Wells snap his fingers in a flashback. This holds significance to the fans of the comics, because Zoloman could snap his fingers and alter reality (or something like that). Also, and this may be reaching here, but Wells talks in a strange way. Zoloman, in the comics, was disconnected from the time frame so much that he couldn’t really talk correctly. He would speak in run on sentences, or really fast, etc. And I’ve noticed that Wells talks in run on’s a lot, and he has a way of pausing and speeding up when speaking that bothers me as a listener. As I said before, probably a stretch, but it would be interesting if that is the case. We also have to consider that Hunter Zoloman’s “Zoom” is more of a Wally West villain than a Barry Allen villain.
Could he be Barry Allen?
I don’t believe this theory to be true, but it could be interesting if it is legit. The argument of “Wells is trying to protect Barry because he IS Barry” is relevant, but it also ignores the fact that Eobard Thawne, in the comics, is a fan of The Flash, until he finds out that he, himself, is the Reverse Flash, and then he goes bananas. So, no, I don’t think Wells is Barry Allen. And if he turns out to be some weird, twisted Barry Allen of the future, then I’ll edit this article to make it look like I was right all along.
Could he be Cobalt Blue?
He could be. But I think Eddie is going to be Cobalt Blue. I’m calling it right now, guys. Eddie is Barry’s long lost cousin or something, and then there’s going to be some weird family drama, and then some stuff will probably happen. Not a great theory, but I’m probably at least half right (maybe).
So, my guess is that Wells is Eobard Thawne, 25th century time traveler who hates The Flash a lot, but needs him to exist in the future, because if The Flash exists, then Eobard can get his speed, and then he can kill The Flash. My theory seems to line up decently, but I’m almost 100% positive that I will be wrong in some way, shape, or form. ‘Tis the way of the world.
Thanks for reading guys. And let me know what you think down below. But you were probably going to do that anyway, so why bother typing it? Have a good day (if you want to)!
Just a side note: This is my first article I've posted here. Feel free to critique me, as all forms of criticism are welcome...but please be gentle.
