The Flash had its world premiere during CinemaCon last night, and initial reactions to the Fastest Man Alive's first solo movie have been racing online since.
The Tweets have been keeping things pretty spoiler free for the most part, but we've known for a while now that the DC Comics superhero adventure would include a few cameos - not all of which made the final cut.
The trades already confirmed that appearances from Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Superman (Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) were nixed when the move to reboot the DCEU and launch DC Studios was implemented, but director Andy Muschietti has now revealed that more were planned... a lot more!
During last night Q&A (via Nerdist), Muschietti confirmed that his original run-time clocked in at 4 hours, and when trimming his film down, he was forced to say goodbye to appearances from Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman, Marlon Brando’s Jor-El from 1978’s Superman, and Burgess Meredith’s Penguin and Cesar Romero’s Joker from the classic '60s Batman TV series.
And yes, The CW's Scarlet Speedster, Grant Gustin, was in line to cameo at one point.
To delve into how these characters would have been integrated into the plot probably would take us too close to spoiler territory, but rest assured, there are still a few cameos to look forward to!
You can take another look at the new trailer for The Flash below.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
