In recent years, China has released little to no American blockbusters in theaters. With political tensions somewhat easing, that's started to change, though we're definitely surprised to learn The Flash is heading to the Middle Kingdom.

Warner Bros. is bound to be overjoyed about the DC Comics adaptation debuting there on June 16, especially as that's a day-and-date debut matching the rest of the world (though we have heard The Flash is hitting the UK a day early on June 15).

Lead star Ezra Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, has kept their head down in recent months. However, they remain a controversial and divisive figure and are unlikely to be front and centre when the time comes for press junkets and interviews. With China typically finding any weak excuse not to release Hollywood titles, it's definitely surprising that The Flash has received the green light there.

The first press screening takes place next week, so we expect to get a better idea of what to expect from the movie then.

Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.

That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian...albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The movie stars Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton.

The Flash races into theaters on June 16.
