Based on everything we've heard from test screenings and insiders, Warner Bros. Discovery has a winner on its hands with The Flash, and it looks like the Scarlet Speedster's first solo outing has found another - very famous - fan.
THR is reporting that Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick megastar has seen the movie, and was so impressed by what he saw that he cold-called director Andy Muschietti to rave about it.
How did this come about? Apparently, Cruise had a meeting with Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and when he mentioned how great the movie was, the actor asked if he could see it.
Zaslav agreed, and a copy of the movie was sent over to Tom's house via a WBD employee, who waited until he watched it before returning it to the studio.
So taken by what he saw, Cruise is said to have called Muschietti to tell him much he loved the film, reportedly gushing that The Flash is “everything you want in a movie” and “this is the kind of movie we need now.”
This is certainly a random development, but we'll take the trade's word for it! At this stage, The Flash really better be one of the greatest superhero movies ever made!
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
